About me
Hi, I'm Amie, a counsellor offering in-person sessions in Bristol or online across the UK for adults.
I work integratively, meaning I am trained in and draw upon a range of different therapeutic techniques and models, depending on each unique client. This might include exploring your past, present and future, always taking a trauma-informed approach to prioritise safety.
Mind and body aren't separate. We live all of life through our bodies, the good and the painful, and difficult experiences can stay with us physically as tension, heaviness, or a sense of being stuck. Alongside talking therapy, I sometimes bring in somatic approaches such as movement or breathwork. They can help us reach feelings and experiences that are hard to put into words. This is always optional, and always in support of the wider work. I'm also interested in how modern neuroscience is shaping our understanding of therapy, and what it can tell us about our experiences.
Our lives are shaped by relationship: with each other, the wider systems we live within, and the natural world around us. My approach reflects this, with a strong focus on the therapeutic relationship between us, as well as exploring the impact of other relationships and systems on your life.
For me, therapy is an active, collaborative process rather than sititng in silence. I believe in a non-hierarchical approach: you are the expert on your life.
My experience
I have experience supporting survivors of rape, sexual abuse and other complex trauma, including developmental and relational trauma. Alongside my private practice, I work as a Counsellor at a specialist sexual abuse organisation in Bristol, and was previously a Listening Volunteer with the Samaritans.
Before training as a counsellor, I spent over a decade in the corporate world, including managing and mentoring teams. That background gives me a grounded, first-hand understanding of workplace pressures, and I have experience supporting clients navigating burnout, redundancy, workplace issues, self-doubt and career transitions.
I also work with people experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD and neurodiversity (including those awaiting diagnosis), relationship challenges, bereavement, loneliness and shame.
I offer a free initial 20 minute video or phone call to discuss whether I'm the right therapist for you.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
