About me

Life does not always go according to plan; are you feeling overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, or are life events impacting you? I will offer you a safe, empathic and confidential space to explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, supporting you to gain greater self-awareness and heal.

I embrace the uniqueness of every individual and believe that whilst our experiences shape us, we all have the potential to overcome difficulties through personal growth and healing.  As a qualified, BACP registered, Humanistic Counsellor, specialising in Transactional Analysis,  I endeavour to build a collaborative and trusting relationship, allowing you to talk freely and focus on what is important to you.

To enable you to find a counsellor that you feel comfortable with, I offer a no-obligation, free, initial session of up to 45 minutes, (phone or online) to give you the opportunity to discuss your requirements, ask questions and decide if my style of working is right for you. This is also an opportunity for me to assess whether I am able to help you.

I offer counselling in person, online or over the telephone. I have welcoming, confidential counselling rooms in two locations - one near Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital and the other at the top of Basingstoke town in The Treatment Hub.

I work with adults over 18 years and offer both short-term and open ended counselling.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am an experienced, qualified Humanistic Counsellor based on Transactional Analysis and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the Hampshire Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (HACP).

Counselling Qualifications:

  • Foundation Degree in Humanistic Counselling, based on Transactional Analysis (BACP Accredited) – Distinction      (Middlesex University)
  • TA101 Course (European Association for Transactional Analysis)
  • Level 3 Diploma in Counselling
  • Level 2 Certificate in Counselling

Further training:

In addition to my qualifications, I am also committed to continued professional development and attend many training courses and workshops. I am a Registered Member of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) which means I abide by their Professional Conduct and Ethical Framework. I have met the training requirements by completing accredited training and have been deemed a competent and ethical counsellor.

I have also undertaken Rainbow Map training; a tool which integrates the entire human system, both narrative and physical into therapy, to highlight trigger cycles and promote self-awareness.

I regularly engage in continual professional development which has recently included -

  • Single Session Therapy
  • Positive Psychology
  • Prescribed Drug Dependence
  • Advanced Master Programme on the Treatment of Trauma
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
  • Suicide Prevention
  • Creative Workshop
  • Assessment Training

My Experience:

Having spent decades in the corporate world in a senior management post, I felt it was time for a change. I am fascinated with 'what makes us tick' and how the experiences we have can shape us and influence the life choices we make. This is one of the reasons I embarked upon a career in counselling.

As Francis Bacon (1597) once so eloquently wrote 'knowledge is power'. I have personally found that developing greater self-awareness of our thoughts, feelings and behaviours provides a platform for change, self-development and the opportunity to reflect on our past and influence our future.

In addition to my private practice, I currently volunteer as a Counsellor and Assessor for a counselling charity in Winchester who provide affordable counselling, supporting adults through short-term and long-term therapy.

I have also previously gained experience with a youth counselling charity in Basingstoke, providing mental health and emotional support to young people and a 6th form college, supporting students.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
