About me

Welcome,

At Embodied Empowerment, I support people to reconnect with the wisdom and resilience of their own bodies through trauma-informed somatic therapy and counselling.

Somatic therapy simply means working with both the mind and the body. Many of us carry the impact of painful experiences not just in our thoughts, but also in our nervous systems - showing up as tension, anxiety, hypervigilance, emotional overwhelm, or feeling “shut down.” By gently working with the body, we can unlock stored patterns and move towards healing in a safe and sustainable way.

Why Trauma-Informed Somatics?

There is a growing body of research showing that somatic, body-based approaches are highly effective in supporting people who have lived through trauma, especially complex trauma.

Complex trauma often develops when someone experiences ongoing or repeated difficulties over time, rather than a single event. This might include:

  • Growing up in an environment where you didn’t feel safe, seen, or supported
  • Experiencing ongoing criticism, neglect, or abuse
  • Living with unpredictable relationships, where you felt you had to “walk on eggshells”
  • Repeated experiences of harm, rejection, or instability in adulthood

Even if you’ve never heard the term before, many people recognise these experiences in their own lives. Complex trauma can leave us feeling stuck in survival mode - constantly “on edge,” disconnected from ourselves, or struggling to trust others.

Somatic counselling helps by creating a safe, steady space where you can gradually shift out of those survival patterns, reconnect with your body, and feel more grounded, present, and alive.

Practicalities that fit your life

I offer flexible sessions - early mornings, lunchtimes, and evenings - so therapy can fit around your schedule. You can choose short-term focused work or longer-term therapy depending on what you need.

If you are interested in nervous system aware trauma therapy, you are welcome to head to my website for some free resources.

Please feel free to get in touch to book in for a free consultation so that we can discuss your needs.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Additional information

I offer a sliding scale to make therapy accessible to a wider range of people, acknowledging that financial circumstances vary. This system is based on trust and self-assessment, allowing you to choose a fee that aligns with both your ability to pay and the value you place on therapy.

The sliding scale ranges from £60-£80 per session. If you are in a position to pay closer to the upper end of the scale, your contribution helps to support others who may need to pay less. This community-minded approach ensures that therapy remains available to everyone, regardless of their financial situation.

When selecting your fee, please consider your financial resources, such as income, expenses, and other commitments. If you’re unsure where you fall on the scale, I’d be happy to discuss it with you to find a fair and sustainable arrangement.
