About me

Welcome to my profile. My name is Aidan (he/him). I offer a safe and confidential, judgment-free space to people of all ethnicities, sexualities and genders where you can be truly seen and heard. The way I work draws on humanistic principles that emphasize empathy, presence, and respect for your unique life experience. I'm committed to seeing you as a whole person, not as a set of symptoms or a label. You are not a problem to be solved.

Therapy allows you the chance to explore who you are at your core, to reflect on how your experiences in life impact you in the here and now, also how you relate to the world around you. Deeper self-understanding helps you make meaningful choices about how to live your life. To choose how to live is empowering even in the darkest of times.

Whether you’re feeling anxious or stuck, dealing with loss or simply wanting to know yourself better, I’m here to walk alongside you and listen. You may be feeling anxious about starting therapy. I understand it can take courage to take the first step. Therapy can be difficult but it can also be transformative. In my case, it lead me to train as a therapist.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified counsellor with a Postgraduate Diploma in Humanistic Psychotherapeutic Counselling. I see many different sorts of clients who present with a broad range of issues including anxiety and depression, low self-esteem, family and relationship problems, neurodiversity, men’s issues, self-harm and suicidal thoughts. In addition to my practice at the Wilbury Clinic, I volunteer as a therapist for Macmillan Cancer Support, also Martlets Hospice. I've gained wide experience working with illness, end-of-life, bereavement and loss. I worked previously in the legal profession where I experienced the stresses associated with high-pressure work environments. I'm interested in how the workplace impacts our well-being. Other interests include boarding school syndrome.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
