About me
Hi, I’m Aidan. I'm a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, working with Adults (18+) in West Lothian, offering face-to-face, walk-and-talk and online counselling.
I created Ember Counselling and Psychotherapy because I know, from experience, that looking after your mental well-being can feel overwhelming. Taking a step in any direction can seem daunting and difficult.
My aim is to support you through those first steps, with warmth, compassion and empathy, helping you to feel heard and understood and free from judgement, while heading towards where you want to be, whether that be healing, self-discovery, acceptance or a new perspective.
I chose the name because Embers are a sign of resilience and endurance; they can symbolise strength and the potential for rebirth and new beginnings.
My Journey
I began my journey to becoming a counsellor around 6 years ago, having previously worked in Customer Care and Management. I always found that colleagues would come to me with concerns and personal issues as they felt safe and heard when speaking with me. It soon became the best part of my role, being a support to others. The onset of covid and the pressures that this placed on individuals, amplified this for me and I realised that my focus and drive was the wellbeing of others.
Having personally experienced the benefits of receiving counselling through a difficult time, I knew that this was my passion.
The way I work
I am a pluralistic counsellor, which means that I use a variety of techniques from different recognised counselling approaches, like Person Centred, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic and Transactional Analysis, to tailor support to your unique needs. Whether you're dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, confidence or any other emotional struggles, I am here to support you and collaborate in a way that feels comfortable and beneficial to you, with tools such as small goal setting, visualisation and motivational interviewing to help you to find your voice and see things from a different perspective.
Locations
I have office space in Blackridge and availability to provide walk and talk sessions in Linlithgow, Whitburn or Bathgate also. I also offer online sessions.
