About me
Hiya! I’m Abbey, a bubbly, straight-talking, neurodivergent person-centred counsellor from Liverpool. I’m passionate about helping people untangle life’s messy moments and reconnect with their true selves.
First off, I just want to say well done. Reaching out for counselling can feel very scary, and you’ve already taken that first brave step by being here. Finding the right counsellor can feel a bit overwhelming, so I thought I’d share a bit about me to help you decide if I am a good fit for you.
Introductory Call
I offer a free 20-minute introductory phone call. This is an opportunity to introduce ourselves, chat about what has brought you here, and address any questions you may have to ensure I am the right therapist for you. You can book this call easily through my website (click the "Visit Website" button above) and go to the "Request Consultation" page.
A Little About Me
Like many counsellors, my path started from my own experience of struggling with mental health when I was younger. Having the right therapist back then helped me rebuild my sense of self, and that’s what inspired me to want to do the same for others. I have a diagnosis of AuDHD (that’s Autism + ADHD), so I know what it’s like when your brain doesn’t quite fit the “standard settings”! Whether you’re neurodivergent, figuring things out, or just trying to make sense of a chaotic world we live in, you’ll find no judgment here, just empathy, compassion, and a dash of my Scouse humour.
How I Work
I offer a calm, supportive, confidential space where you can explore whatever’s going on for you: anxiety, depression, burnout, shame, guilt, grief, identity, or even that “lost” feeling you can’t quite name. I work collaboratively with you at your pace, because therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s about finding what works for you. I strive to establish a trusting and supportive relationship with my clients, built on empathy, respect, and authenticity. This relationship forms the foundation for our work together, helping clients feel comfortable opening up and exploring their concerns, and probably having a bit of a laugh along the way.
My Practice Description
I offer face-to-face counselling in Edge Lane Innovation Park (with free parking available, gender-neutral toilets and wheelchair accessibility), as well as online and phone sessions for those who prefer flexibility in the comfort of your own home. Even if you’re not tech-savvy, I’ll make sure the online side of things feels simple and stress-free. Sessions are open-ended and completely tailored to you; you decide how long you’d like to continue.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold the following qualifications:
- MA Counselling and Psychotherapy Practice
- BSc (Hons) Psychology with Counselling
- BACP -Certificate of proficiency
- Level Two Counselling Skills
- Level Two Understanding Mental Health First Aid and Mental Health Advocacy in the Workplace
- Level One Wellbeing
I also have additional training and experience in working with PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder); I am trained in a trauma-informed approach, utilising the Rewind Technique to support clients in processing and overcoming traumatic experiences. I actively attend ongoing training to ensure that I continue to improve my counselling skills and gain knowledge in areas in which clients may struggle.
My Experience:
I have experience working in various non-profit organisations alongside private practice, each focused on improving mental health and well-being. I have had the privilege of supporting clients from diverse backgrounds and helping them navigate their challenges in a safe space. Through working in the Merseyside area, I am proud to have been part of Seans Place in challenging the stigma surrounding men's mental health by offering one-to-one counselling to men facing mental health challenges.
Before going into counselling, I worked as a volunteer listener for various charities over the last four years, such as Samaritans and Childline, where I gained valuable skills covering a wide range of issues.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
