About me
Counselling sessions are offered in Bristol at locations in Sea Mills (BS9) and Arnos Vale (BS4). Sessions in BS4 are available on Mondays. Online and phone sessions are also available. In some circumstances home visits may be arranged; these are offered at a premium rate.
As a person-centred therapist I understand that each person has their own motivation for positive change. When people are able to explore this in a safe, non-judgemental environment, change can begin to happen.
I trust that clients know themselves and their experiences better than I do. Our relationship is founded on unconditional positive regard, empathy and genuineness. Clients use their time in their own way and at their own pace to explore the areas of life that are causing concern.
I offer a trauma-informed, person-centred approach for clients experiencing distress, anxiety or depression. Many people come to counselling during times of life crisis, grief or loss, relationship or family difficulties, separation or divorce, or following experiences of abuse or trauma.
I also work with issues such as low self-esteem and confidence, anger, panic and anxiety, obsessive thoughts or behaviours, seasonal affective difficulties, and questions around spirituality. I work with individuals, couples, and some young people aged 13 and over.
My aim is to provide a space where people can reflect on their experiences and move towards greater understanding and personal growth.
You are welcome to contact me by phone to discuss counselling or arrange an initial consultation.

With over 35 years’ experience working with people in the support sector, including roles in the Probation Service and within both public and voluntary organisations, I have supported individuals with complex needs in a wide range of settings. I have also been in private counselling practice since 2006, offering both short-term and longer-term counselling.
My work has included supporting those affected by homelessness, mental health difficulties, addiction, ADHD, autism, trauma and dual diagnosis. I have worked with adult survivors of institutional child sexual abuse and served as an Approved Foster Carer for Avon Social Services.
Across these roles I have supported rough sleepers, ex-offenders and people experiencing emotional and psychological distress connected to difficult or controlling environments. I understand that individuals rarely fall into a single category and often need a holistic approach that considers the wider context of their lives.
I also have experience counselling within organisations receiving GP referrals, working with Employee Assistance Programmes, facilitating reflective practice, and mentoring counsellors in private practice.
I also have experience offering counselling services to UK-based employees of multinational organisations.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

The following comments were shared with permission from people who have worked with me.
"When I first sought help from Jane I was struggling with low self-esteem and feeling very low. Through our work together I regained my sense of self-respect and confidence, which helped me make changes in my life, including moving on from a job that was making me unhappy. I now feel much more positive and have rediscovered my zest for life."
"I just wanted to say a MASSIVE thank you for all of your help and support. I’m so grateful for the time you invested in me. It meant so much having someone to go to."
"Jane is an exceptional therapist and knows me better than I know myself. I’ve been seeing her for over two years, and I first came to her at a time when I was extremely vulnerable and in real need of support. She was the first person who truly listened to me and has always made me feel welcome and cared for. Jane genuinely cares about people, and that shows in the way she works."
"Even though we only worked together for a short time, I now feel more self-aware, confident and in control. That was exactly what I needed."
