Dr Tamar Posner UKCP, MBACP
We all experience difficult or emotionally troubled times in our lives. At such times talking to an experienced, qualified psychotherapist who can listen with an open mind and a non-judgmental attitude, understand and help make sense of what is unfolding, can be of lasting benefit.
I work with issues including:
- fear, anxiety and the depression that is often associated with these feelings
- relationship difficulties whether with friends, family or at work
- panic attacks
- suicidal ideation and self-harm
- eating disorders & addictions
- Asperger Syndrome and other Autistic Spectrum disorders
I have a particular interest in life’s transitions, in coming to terms with changed circumstances such as:
- the forming or dissolution of relationships
- changed or lost employment
-‘empty nest syndrome’ – the perfectly natural feelings of grief and loneliness parents or guardians may experience when their children first leave home.
I specialise in working with older people and am founder and facilitator of Silver Circle a therapeutic support group for those who imay be particularly affected by increasing mental or physical frailty, reduced mobility and social isolation.
I offer sessions by telephone or Skype for clients who, for whatever reason, are unable to travel to see me.
For brief, solution-focused therapy I normally offer 6-12 sessions in which we would concentrate on a specific issue.
Longer-term work with deeper, more fundamental issues would be on an open-ended basis.
In addition to the above I also offer:
Clinical Supervision to qualified and trainee counsellors, psychotherapists and others in the helping professions
Academic Assistance to trainee counsellors and psychotherapists writing essays
MA/PhD Dissertation Superivison and my experience as 'research mentor'
I would be happy to talk to you about counselling, psychotherapy or any of the other services I offer so please contact me:

Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
UK Council for Psychotherapy
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
