Bernie Joy UKCP Registered Psychotherapist & Counsellor
I am a highly experienced Counsellor who is a member of UKCP so you can be assured of my professionalism and training.
My approach is described as existential, this means that I will help you to make sense of your life and recognise that although it may seem difficult, you do have choices and you can overcome the difficulties you face at the moment.
I am not a therapist who just sits and listens nodding their head from time to time. As in everyday life, the quality of conversation relies on the quality of the relationship. It is my goal to help you to feel at ease so we can have open conversations and discover what choices you have in your present situation. Whatever your concerns, we can try and discover new directions, different ways of looking at and accepting your life.
I have a lot of experience in:
- lack of achievement
- body image
- relationship to food
- and sexuality.
Please note this list is not exhaustive and I would be more than happy to speak with you about any issues or difficulties.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a UKCP registered Psychotherapist. I have a Certificate in couple therapy, from Schiller International University and humanistic therapy from City University, some CBT training and a diploma and advanced diploma in Existential Psychotherapy from Regents College London.
I can be found on the UKCP and Society for Existential Analysis Websites.
Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
UK Council for Psychotherapy
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
