Frightened clinicians workshop
Taking the perspective of the lone counselling practitioner within an agency setting or private practice, the workshop explores the impact of aggression and violence on our capacity to retain or strength of mind, assess risk to ourselves and maintain the therapeutic stance with our clients.
The need to retain the capacity to be both frightened and in tune with our guts and yet not be too frightened to think is explored, as is the unconscious processes enacted by both client and therapist that can positively shape the outcome of therapy.
Aims to introduce participants to:
- Aggression in human development.
- Theories of aggression and violence.
- Unconscious reactions to working with clients and aggression.
- Gut reaction as a valid risk assessment method or unhelpful counter-reaction?
