Being ‘in the moment’ - developing the therapist’s capacity for attunement and empathy
"Taint what you do, it’s the way that you do it."
Being ‘in the moment’ - developing the therapist’s capacity for attunement and empathy. Experiential workshop with Scott Williams and Perrine Moran
This experiential workshop will look at ways in which techniques used to help actors be attuned to each other and to their own feelings and be present and always "in the moment", can be used by therapists to get in touch with their own countertransference and develop their capacity for attunement and empathy.
It will be jointly run by Perrine Moran, an experienced psychotherapist and Scott Williams the founder and director of the Impulse Company which has offered training to actors since 1996.
Perrine writes, "If psychotherapy is both a science and an art, this is about developing the ability to store the theory at the back of one's mind (like the actor who has memorised a text and doesn't have to think about it) in order to practise the art of therapy. A parallel could be drawn between an actor improvising a scene and a therapist starting a session "with no memory or desire." (Bion).
Come and be prepared to join in, have fun, and find ways to develop further your capacity for attunement and awareness in your clinical work.
