Trainee and qualified counsellors/psychotherapists wherever you live, are all invited to attend our January 2017 meeting.

When you arrive at 9.45am you will receive a warm welcome and encouraged to help yourself to refreshments and mingle with your fellow practitioners.

At 10am after a few short announcements, Rod Collington will give a presentation on:

Demystifying the madness

How often have you, as a therapist, wondered if a client is too hot to handle?

Are you put off by labels? Do you know your limitations?

What is your threshold for complex cases? What is a complex case?

Every person seeking therapy comes with a personal history and often a psychological history that may have been shaped by family, friends, professional health providers and personal research conducted through a range of media. This all brings expectations, fears and anxieties both for the prospective client and the counsellor.

When do we say ‘yes’ and when do we say ‘no’?

The aim of this workshop is to clarify some of the factors that influence the answers to this question. This will be attempted through a brief presentation informed by thirty-five years experience as a psychiatric nurse and latterly as a psychodynamic counsellor.

Small group work will follow examining specific situational problems.

If anyone has a particular question or example that s/he would like to be discussed in the small group work from experience, please feel welcome to contact me either by email (rodcollington@ntlworld.com) or via Sarah (sarah.taylor@andquiss.co.uk) who can pass it on to me directly.

Hope to see you in January.

After Rod’s presentation, we will end with networking and group feedback.
