Supervision details

Welcome to Newlight Counselling and Psychotherapy

Hi,  I am Dawn, a dedicated counselling supervisor with over 15 years of experience in counselling and psychotherapy, rooted in the person-centred approach. My goal is to provide compassionate, supportive, and professional supervision to counsellors at all stages of their careers.

About Me

With a strong foundation in evidence-based methods and a deep commitment to ethical practice, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the supervision process. I adhere to the Hawkins & Shohet (2000) Process Model of Supervision for Counsellors and Helping Professionals. This integrative model allows supervisees to explore and discuss their caseload and their personal & professional development as practitioners. I am deeply committed to the self-care, development, and wellbeing of my colleagues and supervisees. I understand the unique challenges and rewards that come with being a counsellor, and I am here to support you on your professional journey.

Services I Offer

- Individual Supervision: Tailored to meet your specific needs and professional goals. Whether you're seeking support with an ongoing Counselling caseload, complex cases, ethical dilemmas, or personal growth, I provide a safe and confidential space for reflection and development.

- Group Supervision: Engage with peers in a collaborative and supportive setting. Group supervision offers a unique opportunity to gain diverse perspectives, share experiences, and build a sense of community within the profession.

My Approach

My supervision practice is built on a foundation of respect, empathy, and collaboration. We agree that supervision is a forum used by supervisees to reflect on all aspects of their clinical work, where they receive formal and informal feedback on that work. The safety and welfare of clients and the quality of the service they receive is central. I believe in the power of reflective practice and strive to create a space where you feel heard, valued, and understood. My approach is integrative, drawing on various therapeutic modalities to best support your development as a practitioner.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
