Supervision details
Ruth Harrison MBACP (Accred), Counsellor and Qualified Supervisor www.counselling-manchester.co.uk I offer supervision for trained counsellors. As with my counselling practice I work from a mainly Person Centred perspective, integrating other theoretical perspectives and approaches. ExperienceHaving worked as a counsellor for 18 years in various settings including a GP Practice, Manchester University and Stockport College, I have worked with a diverse range of clients in terms of age, gender, ethnicity, sexuality and disability and helped people deal with a wide range of issues. For ten years I worked as the team leader for a team of counsellors and mental health practitioners in a large further education college. Theoretical approachI integrate a variety of theoretical approaches into my core approach which is Person Centred. By providing a supportive relationship promoting an atmosphere of trust my aim is that supervisees can feel safe to explore concerns they may have about individual clients or their practice in general.I aim to provide an experience of mutuality in supervision sessions, encouraging each supervisee to develop their own goals for supervision, including goals for each individual session. To help with this process I keep in mind Hawkins and Shohet’s Seven Eyed Model as well as the three main functions of supervision, normative, formative and supportive (first described as such by Inskipp and Proctor).
