About me
Hello. I am a psychotherapist of 17 years with a specialism in somatic practices, helping people to engage with their body in simple but profound ways as part of their therapeutic process. I offer in person sessions in Hastings, East Sussex and am available for online sessions if you live elsewhere in the UK.
Life can be intense. Relationships can feel confusing. Stress can lead to feeling depleted. Work can sometimes take more from us than it gives. Finding ways to get what we need or to move towards our goals, big or small can feel impossible. Having a dedicated space each week to express your feelings without judgement affirms your lived experience and feeling heard is sometimes the first step towards noticing how your body feels. By exploring simple movement and directing your attention inwards, and moving back and forth between speaking in words and connecting with your body through breath or awareness, or movement, we explore how you relate to your body and the story your body has to tell about what you have been through so that whatever you are struggling with, this is therapy that invites you to slow down and to notice what things feel like in your body.
Many years of working as a therapist with babies and young children means I have a unique insight into how pre verbal experiences with our caregivers, as well as the environment we are born into, can profoundly shape the way we feel in our bodies and how we behave in relationships. Through therapy and with time, unconscious feelings can be brought into awareness which equips us with greater self knowledge and more insight into patterns of behaviour that only create further stress for us.
I believe therapy is not only about healing wounds, but also about getting to know yourself and learning to trust yourself in order to navigate your unique pathway through life with greater confidence and ease.
As well as holding a Masters Degree in Psychotherapy, my background is in dance, movement, and performance and I have worked at the intersection of arts and health in hospitals and hospices, as well as in education settings and colleges. As well as understanding relationships, human development and psychology, I’m trained in anatomy and physiology, in developmental movement patterns and Somatic (body mind) practices, developmental movement and creative therapeutic techniques and am practiced in taking a neurobiological approach, ie a trauma informed approach to working with stress, trauma, PTSD and behavioural patterns.
I warmly welcome all ages, people of colour, the LGBTQIA+ community, neurodivergent folk, and people living with illness or sensory impairments (sight / hearing / speech ). I work with low mood, depression, overwhelm, stress, anxiety, childhood trauma, family estrangement, sexual abuse, eating disorders, relationship issues, panic attacks, grief, loss, reproductive issues, body issues, chronic health conditions and life cycles and changes.
I offer long term and short term work both online and in person.
