About me

** All sessions ONLINE  **
Available sessions are on Weekdays  08:45 am until 9 pm

Hi, I'm Vauna. I'm glad that you have found me, and maybe i can be of help? Reading on will let you know about my positionality and beliefs and what you may expect to gain from us together.

You may have reasons for meeting with me in therapy that are individual to you. As a general comment, some of the things that can come about as we work together are:

  • realising things you didn't before
  • understanding 'why'
  • the processing of emotions or situations
  • mindfully exploring your own needs
  • developing confidence and / or self-advocacy
  • self-compassion, self-acceptance, strength and empowerment
  • clarifying workplace issues and challenges or identifying entitlements
  • Awareness of vulnerabilities and protection, and mitigating risks
  • finding limits and implementing appropriate useful boundaries.
  • feeling empowered to make positive choices and maybe also take new directions

As an openly autistic therapist, I understand firsthand both the challenges and joys of being autistic. My own journey to self-acceptance guides my approach of empowering autistic clients to embrace their authentic selves. I believe we all deserve to feel understood, accepted, and empowered to reach our full potential. I have a welcoming space for you and my goal is for you to feel genuinely seen, accepted, and valued as your authentic self.

As a late-identifying autistic person, there may have been actions, events, relationships that have shaped our lived experience. And, if you are recently realising that you are neurodivergent, it is quite natural to review your own life and seek to make sense of past struggles through a newer lens. It's possible that for some people this may arouse feelings and realisations ranging from uncomfortable to intense. There is space for that. And the insights or clarity gained can help with processing such things, or taking actions on them. And gaining knowledge this way can offer ways of informing and steering us today and in the future.

Often, learning about masking explains so much, as well. Masking can be energetically costly, as well have costs due to our own needs not being met, or our own desires not being acknowledged or followed. It can help to understand internalised ableism as we gain a meaningful understanding of ourselves without shame and ultimately embrace and express ourselves fully. Moreover, in the therapy sessions we can explore alternatives that don't seem simple to 'just' do (because unmasking is not always easy to work out or implement).

My Therapeutic approach integrates core principles, such as

  • I honour neurodiversity as a natural and valuable form of difference.
  • I meet each client with respect, and with the assumption that clients know themselves and are able to make great use of our time together.
  • Therapy is for the whole of you, and that includes your life, your self, your thoughts, your situations and your relationships.

I blend deeply affirming practice with support for the full range of human concerns that people bring to therapy. As your therapist, I show up fully as my authentic self to be with you as you share your concerns, conflicts, desires, and problems, and seek meaning, understanding, and solutions.

Training, qualifications & experience

I've been a therapist in my private practice for 24 years and, I've worked as a psychotherapist, Counsellor, and Group therapist for the NHS in the past.

Now, I am only in private practice, so I am here every weekday. That means that I usually have spaces available for new clients within a couple of days of you contacting me.

Sessions are for 60 minutes. Monday to Friday.

My qualifications are as follows...

  • Certified Cybertherapist
  • Masters degree (MSc Psych.)
  • Post Grad Cert Autism
  • Certificate CBT (post qual)
  • Post Graduate Clinical Diploma (couns)
  • Diploma (couns)
  • Certified Transactional Analyst (CTA.P)
  • Master Practitioner NLP

  • Lab Profile Certified
  • Certificate in Training Practice

In addition to those qualifications, I've done lots of specialist mini-courses that do not have qualifications attached to them, (for example, working with depression, anxiety, grief, despair, autism, ADHD, executive functioning, relationships, goal setting, motivation, confidence, performance, and much more).

Additionally, I have trained and qualified in being an online therapist.

If there is anything you would like to ask about me, my qualifications, or my experience, I will answer you.
