Valerie Lyons BSc (Hons), MBACP, Counsellor and Supervisor
Hi, I'm Val,
Welcome to my counselling space:- safe, relaxed and supportive. Due to Covid-19 and social distancing measures, counselling sessions will be via the internet or telephone until restrictions are lifted.
My "theoretical approach" is Integrative and I work within a variety of counselling styles. I will listen to you with empathy, kindness and without judgement. I understand that the decision to come to counselling can be quite daunting. I wish to make you feel at ease and relaxed.
My private practice is set in a quiet, discreet location and parking is available for you. It's easy access off all the main routes. I have a private, secure and comfortable purpose built office, enabling me to offer a safe and confidential space for your counselling sessions.
I have some availability in Peterborough too, in purpose built therapy rooms.
I am qualified to work with children, adolescents and young people as well as adults.
I am also a registered senior staff nurse , having spent over 19 years working in the NHS in both hospital, GP, hospice and community settings.
My experience as a nurse and counsellor has given me valuable insight into the challenges faced through life's stages and the difficulties individuals may face. Modern day life can be stressful, hectic and unpredictable, it's busy and demanding. I'm a mum too and understand the pressures of this role.
Some areas I work with are anxiety, general anxiety, depression, disorders, panic disorder and phobias, along with other difficulties in relationships or stressful situations from all walks of life. There are strategies that may turn down their intensity to give you back some control. I'm here to listen to you, when you feel ready to start your journey. No matter how big or small, it may be time for you to talk and get the support you need.
I offer short, medium or long term therapy to suit you, on a confidential and professional basis. Home visits are available at an extra charge.
Making the first step is often the hardest, I'm here to support you through this. Contact me Valerie, by email, text or mobile.
I look forward to hearing from you very soon, warmest wishes, Val.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
