About me

I recognise that you as an individual know what is making you anxious and or troubling you.  Advice, being told how to fix problems may not seem helpful when you anxious and or worried/ upset. Talking with family, friends, and colleagues may improve the situation in the short term or make you more unsettled.

I believe that talking problems through with a qualified counsellor, in a professional, warm and safe environment, could be the answer for you. You may be seeking support and understanding at an extremely anxious time.

I aim to provide such an environment in which you will hopefully feel heard and understood. Given the right atmosphere and support, you can make sense of your anxiety and pain, gain confidence to make changes and take control of your life.

Training, qualifications & experience

My experience in counselling has been gained through working in many areas over the past 27 years, including primary care trusts, emergency services, youth work, employers' assistance programmes, and further and university educational settings.

I have been an Accredited Counsellor with BACP since March 2000 and a Senior Accredited Counsellor since March 2005.

All my individual counselling training was undertaken and completed at Wigan and Leigh Further Education College, the Advanced Diploma Course was BACP-accredited.

I am a fully qualified Relationship Counsellor, gaining my Certificate in Relationship and Couple Therapy from Relate in December 2000.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Areas of counselling I deal with

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I have counselled now for 24 years in different settings, my experience is wide and varied. I always return to the same conclusion ,which is that a person needs to feel warmth, be comfortable, feel understood, but most of all feel heard. I feel this needs to be conveyed both verbally and emotionally , then there is the space for you to make changes and emotionally grow.

I look forward to facilitating that space for you in your endeavour to make sense of yourself and your world.
