About me

About me and the approaches I use

Welcome to my profile page.  I am a Person-Centred Counsellor, with over 20 years of experience.  I work with an integrated approach which means I use several other counselling approaches within my work to help you to reach your goals. These include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Coach-Therapy and Solution Focussed Therapy.  These approaches may help you to develop better coping strategies and understand why we feel the way we do, and ways to change.  I work face-to-face and online using video call on Skype, WhatsApp or other platforms. I work with adults and adolescents aged 11 years and up.  Young people often value being able to talk through their worries in private and come to a better understanding of their feelings.

What to expect in your sessions

When you choose to work with me, I will offer you the time to talk through your thoughts and feelings at your own pace without judging you. We will work together with the aim of building a trusted confidential working relationship. It is within this relationship that you can feel free to work through the areas of your life that may feel unsettling or that you want to change.

Accessing Counselling can feel challenging and at times anxiety levels may seem higher. This is a normal part of therapy and making the decision to change, and most clients tell be that this often subsides in the early sessions. I am experienced in many areas these include, Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, Stress, Trauma OCD and many other areas not listed.

When you contact me regarding an appointment or with an enquiry, I will aim to respond to you within 24 hours of me receiving your message. At your first appointment, I will explain to you what my service can offer in terms of confidentiality, and we will make an agreement of working together. You are agreeing to one session only, any further sessions will be agreed upon jointly. We will review your progress together throughout the sessions and this will help you to determine your improvements and goals.

Training, qualifications & experience

I qualified as a Counsellor in 2002 with an advanced diploma in Person-Centred Counselling. Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
