About me
Hi, I’m Tom and I can offer a warm presence and a judgment-free and understanding environment in which any problem can be worked on collaboratively. I primarily see clients face-to-face within Leeds city centre, with online sessions also available.
I’m an integrative psychotherapist and I work with adults of all ages (18+). Please be aware my working days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
I know how difficult it can feel when trying to choose a therapist, scrolling down a list of faces and wondering who can actually help. It can feel confusing to know what you really need, but for me, it felt important to find someone who I could trust and feel accepted by.
I offer a confidential environment where you can bring any problem. Everything can go at your pace, and in a way that helps you feel safe and taken seriously. The process of therapy is different for everyone, but my overall aim is to allow you to explore what is happening and navigate a way forward with greater understanding and empowerment.
Training, qualifications & experience
As an integrative therapist, I am trained to use a variety of therapeutic approaches to help meet your individual needs. This means the nature of the sessions is tailored to each client, but throughout all of my work, I have a humanistic and relational focus. This puts you in control, as I believe you are the expert of yourself and my role is to aid your awareness and autonomy. It is also my belief that a strong client-therapist relationship is the most important aspect of therapy and through our relationship, you can be supported to have a greater understanding about dynamics that play out within yourself and also with friends and family.
I have experience working therapeutically with individuals of a wide variety of ages and backgrounds. Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, I had two years’ experience at the suicide prevention charity Samaritans, befriending the terminally ill through Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice, and helping rehabilitate convicted individuals through Re: shape (Re: Sexual Harm Awareness, Prevention & Education). I think it is important for therapy to be accessible and open to all, regardless of gender, sexuality and race, as no one is spared from facing difficulty in their lives. To help therapy be more accessible I make 20% of my slots available with concession rates to students and individuals receiving Universal Credit.
I have client testimonials available to read on my website, which is linked at the top of this page.
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information
As an initial contact I offer a fifteen minute consultation to begin to get to know each other. This is free of charge and can be done either online or over the phone. It is an opportunity for you to express what it is you want from therapy and I will also be able to get a sense of whether I am able to help you. Alternatively, if you prefer, our first contact can be face-to-face during a full session of 50 minutes.
