About me
My in person practice is based above and attached to an inviting cafe called The Brewhouse within a historic and characterful building in the village of Wheathampstead. The consulting rooms are very pleasant and comfortable indeed. I like to encourage a friendly atmosphere in the therapy room. By paying careful attention to ourselves we can provide the space we need to develop and grow, addressing any difficulties or obstacles on the way. After many years of practice, I have found that working in the moment with whatever is being experienced, is the most effective way to help someone overcome their problems. I also offer Zoom appointments when these are preferred.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Having worked in the NHS for 12 years in various settings, I left to set up a private practice. I have extensive experience treating a wide range of emotion-related problems, including depression, anxiety, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder and various personality disorders. I am able to deliver a variety of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) approaches including Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT). I have also specialised in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) having begun practising this in 2012 and later completing my core training in this in 2018 with the IEDTA. My areas of special interest include trauma, unexplained physical pain and attachment. In addition to my clinical work, I teach an introduction to ISTDP at The University of Nottingham for their Doctorate in Clinical Psychology training programme. I have also published research in the area of disability and mental health.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.
They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.
Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.
