About me
I am a qualified counsellor with experience of working with anxiety, depression, relationship issues and low self-esteem, amongst other things. I have worked with Teens and Young Adults predominantly, with experience in schools and university settings. I have experience with Mid-Lifers and Couples as well.
Whether this is your first counselling experience, or your most recent - taking the step into therapy can be a challenge. You wouldn't be looking if there was not a need, and the need can make taking steps difficult.
I work in an integrative way - This means that I draw from a number of different counselling styles - I am Person-Centred at my core also using elements of Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, CBT, REBT, Mindfulness and Existentialism, with elements of Coaching and NLP. Firstly I am led by you and the direction you want to take, whilst also being gently challenging.
I can use psycho-educational approaches to help you understand your own mental health and the choices, actions, thoughts you have. Understanding is the first key to accepting and accepting is the gateway to change.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Tom
What you Can Expect from Counselling sessions with me:
A Safe and Confidential Space: A non-judgmental environment where you feel heard, understood, and respected. Your privacy and confidentiality are my top priority.
Collaborative and Supportive Approach: We will work together to identify your goals and develop a personalised treatment plan. You’ll be an active participant in the therapy process, and I’ll be here to guide and support you.
Personalised Tools and Strategies: I will provide you with practical tools and exercises to apply between sessions, including relaxation techniques, thought reframing, and self-compassion practices. We’ll work on developing coping skills to manage stress, anxiety, and any other challenges you may be facing.
Focus on Understanding Your Thoughts and Feelings: Together, we’ll explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, helping you develop a better understanding of your emotional patterns. We’ll identify and address any limiting beliefs or negative thought cycles that may be contributing to your challenges.
Empathy and Compassion: will meet you where you are and offer compassionate listening and understanding throughout our sessions. You’ll have space to express yourself openly, without fear of judgment.
Practical Support for Everyday Life: In addition to emotional processing, I’ll help you identify practical strategies to navigate daily stressors, relationship challenges, and work-life balance.
Respect for Your Pace and Needs: Therapy is at your pace—if you need time to process or revisit certain topics, we will move forward in a way that feels right for you. If a particular approach or technique doesn’t feel right, we will adjust accordingly.
Progress and Reflection: We will regularly check in on your progress toward your goals, celebrating small victories and adjusting the approach as needed. Expect space to reflect on the changes you’re experiencing and any obstacles that come up along the way.
Commitment to Your Growth: My ultimate goal is to empower you to achieve greater emotional well-being, resilience, and self-understanding. Over time, you will gain the skills to manage life’s challenges independently and with greater ease.
