Affordable Counselling Service in Cuckfield, West Sussex

About us

Welcome to our Affordable Counselling Service.

At The Welcome Room, we offer low-cost, face-to-face counselling for adults struggling with depression, anxiety, stress, relationship issues, work issues or if they simply need someone to talk to.

  • Face-to-face sessions are offered at £30 per session.
  • Sessions take place in Cuckfield, West Sussex.
  • Each session lasts 50 minutes and is held weekly.
  • We are open Monday to Saturday during the daytime and in the evening on weekdays.

Getting Started

Your counselling journey begins with an initial telephone assessment. This is a one-off session with a qualified and experienced counsellor to explore whether counselling feels right for you at this time.

During the consultation, you’ll have the chance to talk about what’s bringing you to counselling and ask any questions you might have. The information you share will help us understand your needs and match you with the most suitable counsellor.

After the assessment, we will allocate you to a counsellor as soon as someone appropriate becomes available. Once a match is made, your counsellor will get in touch to arrange your first session.

The fee for this telephone assessment is £20.

Your Therapy

We offer weekly counselling sessions because consistency is an important part of the therapeutic process.

Meeting regularly once a week helps to:

  • Build a safe and trusting relationship between you and your counsellor
  • Create momentum in working through personal challenges and goals
  • Provide structure and continuity, especially during times of stress or change
  • Support long-term progress, rather than short-term fixes
  • Weekly sessions allow enough time between appointments for reflection and integration, while still keeping the connection and focus needed for meaningful change.

This format also supports the learning and development of our student counsellors, who benefit from working consistently with clients under supervision.

We respect the uniqueness of all our clients and therefore do not limit the number of sessions, preferring instead to focus on our clients’ needs.

Training, qualifications & experience

Our affordable counselling service is made possible through a unique and mutually beneficial model. We partner with student counsellors who are currently completing their professional training and require placement hours as part of their accredited course.

By providing these students with supervised placement opportunities, we are able to offer high-quality counselling sessions at a significantly reduced cost. Each student counsellor works under the close guidance of experienced and accredited supervisors, ensuring that you receive professional, ethical, and compassionate support.

This model not only helps aspiring counsellors gain real-world experience, but also makes mental health support more accessible and affordable for our community.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

We have verified that at least one professional at this organisation is registered with the relevant professional body.

How our Affordable Counselling Service Works:

Our affordable counselling service is made possible through a unique and mutually beneficial model. We partner with student counsellors who are currently completing their professional training and require placement hours as part of their accredited course.

By providing these students with supervised placement opportunities, we are able to offer high-quality counselling sessions at a significantly reduced cost. Each student counsellor works under the close guidance of experienced and accredited supervisors, ensuring that you receive professional, ethical, and compassionate support.

This model not only helps aspiring counsellors gain real-world experience, but also makes mental health support more accessible and affordable for our community.

Our sessions are delivered in-person at our Cuckfield location to ensure a personalised and connected experience.

Are our student counsellors qualified to offer therapy?

All of our student counsellors have successfully passed their Readiness to Practice Assessment, a formal evaluation conducted by their accredited training institutions. This assessment ensures that each counsellor has demonstrated the necessary skills, ethical understanding, and professional competence required to begin working with clients on their own.

We are confident in the quality of care our student counsellors provide. They receive regular supervision and ongoing training throughout their placement with us.

Independent Practice of student counsellors

At The Welcome Room, our student counsellors work independently with their clients as part of their professional training and development. Each counsellor is responsible for their own therapeutic practice and the clients they see.

While they are supported through regular clinical supervision and training, the counselling sessions are conducted solely between the counsellor and their client. This ensures a safe, confidential, and professional space for clients to explore their concerns, while also giving student counsellors the opportunity to build their experience and skills in practice.

By choosing to work with a student counsellor, clients benefit from dedicated one-to-one support and the assurance that the counsellor is developing their professional competence under appropriate supervision.
