About me

Life can throw difficult and painful experiences at you that can leave you feeling overwhelmed, anxious, sad or depressed. Sometimes your past traumatic relationships can repeat in your present ones. And sometimes your early experiences can keep you surviving rather than living. But you don’t have to struggle alone.

I know how difficult it can be to take that first step. The most important thing when finding a therapist is that you feel "comfortable enough" to share what you are experiencing. It is not easy, but in a calm, safe, and confidential space I hope you will experience the support and healing that you seek; whether or not that is with me.

I am an experienced psychotherapist whose approach is a holistic and integrated one, centred on understanding our experiences through both body and mind. Throughout our lifetime we learn to modify ourselves to fit in with the demands of others. We can lose touch with how we feel and what is important to us. Re-engaging with our felt sense can bring us back to what is true for us here and now.

This can be particularly difficult when life experiences have been traumatic.  This is the specific area that I specialise in; helping you to regulate your nervous system to stop the overwhelm.  You may find yourself being triggered without realising that is what is happening.  Learning to recognise what they are can help you to take some control.  What is most helpful is not talking directly about the past, but focussing on how the past is impacting your life in the present so that life can be better.

I work with individuals, offering both short-term counselling and longer term therapy, depending on what you are looking for from our work together.

Please look at my website to get more information about me and my practice.

What to do next
If you would like to enquire further please send me an email or give me a call.  I do prefer to talk to you directly before arranging a first appointment as this can give you a sense of me before we meet.  If I am not available please leave me a voicemail I will return your call by the next working day.  If you have a preferred time e.g. after 6pm please let me know.

Our first appointment will give you the chance to meet me and to see if what I have to offer is right for you, and for me to understand what you want to get out of therapy.  Above all, it is important that you choose someone you feel comfortable enough with.  If you decide working with me fits for you, then appointments are usually weekly at a regular time.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
