About me

Hello, I’m Teresa. Thank you for visiting my profile.

Seeking counselling can feel difficult for many reasons, even when you know it might help. It’s completely normal to feel hesitant about reaching out to a complete stranger. You may be unsure where to start, what to say, or whether a counsellor will understand you. You might worry about feeling judged, losing control, or saying something you later regret.

Please know that these concerns are common and many of us experience them, including counsellors. I feel them myself when I go to my own therapy, but addressing emotional issues through counselling can improve our quality of life.

Talking about our struggles brings us closer to our emotional pain, and that can be challenging. It takes courage to face experiences or feelings that may be among the hardest things we’ve had to confront or accept. Counselling offers a space where you don’t have to face those things alone. It provides you with the space and safety to explore your thoughts and feelings from a place of empathy, acceptance and respect without judgement.

Are you feeling overwhelmed, anxious, low, or simply not yourself, without really knowing why? Perhaps you’re caught in cycles of worry or overthinking, navigating relationship difficulties with a partner, friends and/or work colleagues. Maybe you’re carrying grief, and it’s complicated. You may be struggling with low self‑esteem, work stress, job loss, or a sense of numbness or disconnection from the world and people around you. If you’ve experienced trauma or are a survivor of sexual abuse or rape, you may be left with unanswered questions and carrying shame and guilt that isn’t yours. You might be exploring or questioning your gender identity, sexuality, or parts of yourself you’ve learned to keep quiet and hide from the world just to survive. Maybe you’re facing a major life transition, such as menopause, and are trying to make sense of overwhelming emotions and physical changes that have you feeling less like yourself and are disrupting your day-to-day.

Whatever you’re holding, you don’t have to hold it by yourself. I’m a qualified and experienced counsellor, and I offer a calm, compassionate space that is yours to try and make sense of things and the world around you and begin to reconnect with who you are.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am trained in Person‑Centred Counselling, a therapeutic approach grounded in the belief that people can grow, heal and make meaningful change when they feel genuinely supported. Rather than acting as the ‘expert’ giving you instructions, you’ll be listened to with genuine interest, met with honesty, and accepted without judgement so that you can understand your own experiences and make decisions for yourself in a way that feels right for you.

My work is informed by specialist trauma‑informed training, and I currently support survivors of rape and sexual abuse. Trauma can affect us in many ways, including shame, fear, dissociation, identity loss, relationship difficulties and long‑lasting impacts on self‑worth. It takes so much away from us, so let's approach your experiences in a gentle and steady way, firstly by working on strategies that strengthen your emotional and physical responses to the trauma you have experienced and then exploring your trauma at a pace that feels manageable for you.

I also have extensive experience supporting people through grief and bereavement, whether the loss was expected or sudden; grief can show up in many forms: the deep, complicated kind, the quiet ache that comes with life changes or shifting identities, or the pain of relationships ending. However your grief appears, we explore what it means for you and the emotions that come when life shifts in ways you didn’t choose.

As a Menopause Café facilitator, I have supported women and people experiencing perimenopause and menopause to talk openly about the emotional, physical and relational changes that can feel overwhelming or isolating. This work strengthens my counselling practice, particularly around identity, self‑esteem, life transitions and the impact of hormonal change on wellbeing.

Alongside my Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, I hold a Level 5 Professional Coaching qualification, and I find that this enhances my ability to support you with confidence, self‑understanding, decision‑making and personal growth. My coaching background complements my therapeutic work, especially if you're looking to reconnect to yourself, those around you and the things that bring you joy and peace, or seeking clarity during periods of change.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

If you’re thinking about starting therapy, you might not know where to begin, but if you’re reading this, something in your life has asked for your attention, and you’ve taken the step to look for support and that can feel huge and overwhelming, and it’s completely understandable.

You might be carrying things that feel tangled, heavy, or hard to put into words. That’s okay; you don’t need a clear story or script. We will take our time to make sense of it together.

Therapy isn’t about fixing you; you’re not broken. You’ve lived through experiences that have hurt you, confused you, and left you carrying more than you should have had to, and you deserve a place to make sense of all of that.

We pay attention to what’s happening inside you and explore the parts of your life that feel overwhelming, painful, or unclear. Whether you’re navigating trauma, grief, identity changes, menopause, or a sense that something isn’t sitting right but you’re not sure why, it’s okay not to know. We work gently, at your pace, in a way that feels manageable for you.
