About me

I began my professional journey as a Public Health doctor, where I developed a deep appreciation for the complex ways in which physical, emotional, environmental and social factors shape our wellbeing. Alongside this work, my own life experiences led me to seek counselling during a particularly challenging period.

Experiencing therapy from the client’s perspective was a turning point for me. I came to understand counselling not simply as a place to “fix” problems, but as a powerful space to pause, reflect and make sense of what has been painful or confusing, and I found myself drawn to training as a counsellor.

Having lived in multiple countries across different continents, I understand the impact of loss, displacement and major life transitions. My cultural background informs my awareness of family dynamics within Asian cultures and the diverse challenges commonly experienced by immigrants.

I did four years of Psychodynamic training at the Tavistock Centre. I then gained a BACP accredited Advanced Diploma in Humanistic and Integrative Counselling over three years.

My training in public health and preventive medicine supports a holistic approach to mental health, with attention to mind–body connections and protective factors. I have extensive experience working with complex health and social issues across diverse social, economic and cultural groups, and I bring both professional expertise and a compassionate presence to my work with clients.

Training, qualifications & experience

I work with adults from all walks of life who may be experiencing anxiety, depression, work-stress, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, grief, abuse, trauma, loneliness, anger, or life transitions.

I believe that every client comes to therapy with unique experiences and challenges, and with the potential for change. I offer a containing, confidential therapeutic space for you to contemplate and confront your challenges - with empathy, authenticity and gentleness - at your own pace.

My work is underpinned by the therapeutic relationship i.e., building trust and understanding with my clients and working with each individual and their unique circumstances and internal resources in a sensitive, nourishing and meaningful way.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

Beginning therapy can feel daunting or confusing and evoke a range of emotions, and that's natural. To support this first step, I offer a free 10–15 minute phone or online consultation, with no obligation, to give you space to ask questions and explore whether working together feels right for you.

If you wish to proceed, then in the first session, I usually explain how we will work together and discuss confidentiality and also go through a few questions to assess what you hope to get out of your sessions.

Sessions last 50 minutes and are conducted online via Zoom, on Teams or Google meet or phone.

Your experiences and story matter, and I will meet you with care and curiosity when you are ready to share them.
