About me

Thanks for visiting my profile! I'm Suzy, a chartered counselling psychologist (HCPC-registered) specialising in therapy underpinned by feminist values. I'm also a queer-affirmative and disability-aware therapist.

My approach to therapy is flexible and collaborative. I always strive to create a supportive space where you can openly address your concerns without fear of judgment. Some of the most common concerns that I support people with are low mood, anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, coping with chronic illness, grief, self-esteem, and identity exploration.

Drawing from my NHS and charity experience, I frequently work with people who have been affected by trauma, abuse, or neglect, as well as people who have faced marginalisation, discrimination, and oppression based on aspects of their identity (e.g. race, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, education, or faith/religion).

I currently work with adult clients, both in-person and online, through my private practice Lavender Psychology. Sessions are typically offered on a weekly or fortnightly basis. The normal session length is 50 minutes.

Training, qualifications & experience

Education and Training:

  • Doctor of Psychology in Counselling Psychology - Glasgow Caledonian University
  • Master of Science in Applied Psychology - Robert Gordon University
  • Certificate in Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Skills and Practice - Irish College of Humanities and Applied Sciences

Clinical Experience:

  • My experience in counselling/psychotherapy includes working within private practice, the NHS, third sector mental health charities, and a primary school. I also regularly pursue CPD to improve my skills and practise.
  • I am trained in and draw from multiple approaches to therapy. At the beginning of working together, we'll go through your needs and preferences for therapy to select an approach that suits you. We'll also check in throughout the therapy and make changes if your needs or preferences change.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

HCPC
Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.

Further information

I think it's important for clients to feel comfortable with the person they're working with, whether that be a psychologist, counsellor, or psychotherapist. So I've shared a little bit about myself below, so that you may have an idea of whether you'd feel comfortable working with me.

A bit about me as a person:

I'm fond of plants, board games, coffee shops, reading, crafting, and baking sweet treats. I strongly value social justice and intersectional feminism. I am queer/bi and allied to other LGBTQ+ identities, especially trans and non-binary people. I also have lived experience of chronic physical pain.

Contacting me:

I reply to enquiries and emails within 48 hours, unless I am on leave. If you have sent me an enquiry, and you haven't received a response, please check your spam or junk folder.
