About me
I am Susan, an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, working online across the UK and in person in Southeast London. As an integrative therapist, I have trained in a range of therapy modalities which will inform our work, and recognise that no single therapeutic approach works for everyone. Just as you are a person with diverse experiences, thoughts, and feelings, effective therapy often requires drawing from multiple therapeutic traditions to meet your unique needs. The beauty of integrative counselling work is its flexibility. As you grow and change through our sessions, our approach can evolve, too. At times, you may want specific help when facing a specific obstacle; other times, you may want to better understand how your past is affecting your present. Whatever your focus, the work we do will be tailored to your needs. I am skilled in person-centred, Gestalt, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioural theories and draw on these according to what’s most useful to you.
In our sessions, I’ll also pay close attention to how we relate to each other, as sometimes patterns we experience elsewhere in our lives also show up in the therapy space. By gently noticing these together, we can understand them more deeply and test out new ways of relating, both here and beyond our sessions.
Consider that space where the forest meets a clearing, a place where the shadows may feel heavy but the light seemingly guides us forward. A place where what’s known so far meets what’s possible ahead. A place of transition, possibility, opening, and growth. If you find yourself at your own edge of the wood, whether facing a specific challenge, feeling generally stuck, wanting to put the pieces of your past together, or looking for a space to grow and explore, I welcome you to my practice.
Training, qualifications & experience
My work has supported people dealing with anxiety, depression, grief and bereavement, low self esteem and self worth, relationship challenges, and existential concerns (e.g., why am I here?). I also work with individuals facing life crises - those pivotal moments when circumstances shift unexpectedly through job loss, relationship changes, or other significant transitions.
More personally, I’ve had a lifelong passion for communication in general, and a previous career as a communication therapist. These days, I remain fascinated by all aspects of how we articulate our inner experience with words and beyond. While none of this will be front and central in our work together necessarily, I will always be coming from a place that is considerate of your voice and your message, and how you want to express your self.
I have worked in a counselling capacity for Royal Trinity Hospice in Clapham, providing bereavement support, and I continue to volunteer as a counsellor at Accessible Counselling and Therapy (previously BCCS) in Bromley. I hold the following qualifications, certifications, and memberships:
- Accredited Registrant - National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society
- Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling, Level 4 - Heartwood Counselling and Psychotherapy College
- The Gift of Reconnection: Developing Trauma Informed Practice (Silver Level) training
- Certificate in Counselling Studies, Level 3 - CPTA/Counselling and Psychotherapy Training Academy
- Certificate in Counselling Skills, Level 2 - CPTA/Counselling and Psychotherapy Training Academy
Non-counselling qualifications which inevitably inform my practice:
-
Post-Graduate Diploma in Speech and Language Therapy - City University
-
Master of Arts in Sociolinguistics - University of Essex
-
Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and Psychology - University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

Further information
My path to becoming a counsellor began as a client myself. I experienced the profound impact of having someone truly listen, understand, and provide support through difficult times. That experience of genuine connection is what drew me to this work. I believe that everyone deserves a space where they can speak openly and honestly. Your experiences, whatever they are, deserve to be heard without judgment.
I also believe in your capacity for growth, and I'm here to walk alongside you as you navigate whatever has brought you to seek counselling. But you won’t be doing it alone. Evidence shows (as does my personal experience) that it is the quality of the relationship between us, as client and counsellor, that has the greatest impact on outcomes for you. So I won’t be merely holding up a mirror to you. I will also offer my most authentic self - full of curiosity, care, honesty, and hope - as we explore your experience together.
