About me

When we find ourselves noticing repeated patterns of behaviour that may no longer be helpful, or we are simply struggling to make sense of our lives, it can be helpful to speak to someone who is unbiased, confidential, and trained to listen.

My name is Steven and I am a psychodynamic counsellor. For over fourteen years I have worked in the public, charitable and private sectors, helping people from different backgrounds explore a wide range of issues, problems and life events which may be causing them conflict.

You can talk to me at your own pace, without fear of judgement, about the issues you are struggling with. Together we can unpack them, allowing you to see them from a fresh perspective and to move on.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling
  • Registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
  • Certificate in Online Counselling from the Online Therapy Institute.
  • Over fourteen years counselling practice with the Tom Allan Centre, Glasgow. More recently I have worked with The Garnethill Centre as well as my own private practice.
  • BA (Hons), MPhil

Extensive counselling experience with both younger and older clients, bringing a broad range of issues, including anxiety, trauma, low mood and depression.

I understand the importance of creating a counselling space which is safe and confidential.

I have learned from my training and practice, that events in our past can often have an impact on our feelings and behaviour in the present. Reflecting on aspects of our life story which arise in the counselling process, can help us to better understand our ingrained habits of thinking and our blocks to moving on in the here and now.

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
