About me
Hi, I'm Steve. I'm an experienced, BACP accredited therapist, who came to counselling relatively late in life. Having lived through various experiences myself, I can understand the impact life events can have, and this helps me to connect with, understand, and relate to my clients.
I love seeing a client that I'm working with, starting to break free from the negative experiences and emotions that have been holding them back, and to see them begin to develop tools, resources and the self-belief needed to start living their lives in the way they want to.
I believe that a trusting, collaborative, therapeutic relationship is the key to you achieving your goals through counselling.
I don't use a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy as I believe this is limiting and wouldn't recognise the individual needs of my clients. I do take a person-centred approach putting you, the client as the focus and the very centre of the therapeutic relationship. However I am flexible and adaptable in my approach to help you get the most from your counselling.
I also offer EMDR, which stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. It is a unique, evidence based, therapy that helps people recover from problems triggered by traumatic events in their lives. It stops difficult memories causing so much distress by helping the brain to reprocess them properly, using the brain's natural ability to heal and process difficult and distressing events and memories.
We live in a diverse society and I value everybody’s right to be who they truly are and to live their lives in their own way. I try to live by this open, accepting and non-judgemental attitude and this is reflected in my approach to counselling.
Here are a couple of testimonials from clients who have recently completed therapy with me.*
"Excellent counselling sessions. Steve helped me so much and wouldn't have got back to my old self without him." SG, Femail, 24
"Embarking on counselling is always going to feel daunting but Steve goes out of his way to make this as simple and comfortable as possible. As a counsellor he is never pushy but acts as a guide and things are done at your pace. What you want to discuss and how deep is entirely at your own volition. I've achieved so much in the six months or so I've spent with Steve. It's been an investment well made and I can't recommend him enough." MB, Male, 63

Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
