About me

I am a Devon based counsellor with quiet, private rooms in Teignmouth and Exeter.  If you can't get to one of those, or you prefer not to, I also work online.

I'm a fully qualified and insured registered member of the BACP.  I also abide by the BACP Ethical Framework.

I work with adults from all walks of life who need a warm, compassionate and non-judgmental counsellor to talk to and people come to me with a range of issues.   Here are a few of the areas I have experience in addressing:

  • Anxiety and/or panic attacks
  • Depression
  • Low self-esteem, lack of confidence, people pleasing
  • Difficulties in retirement or at work
  • Feeling confused or stuck in life
  • Loneliness

Over time, I've also developed a special interest in working with bereavement,  men (especially those who find it difficult to reach out for help),  young adults (18-24),  and burnout.

My view is that there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to counselling. Each individual is unique, and each session is unique. Sometimes there will be a need to be heard and understood, sometimes a need to process past experiences and sometimes a need to prepare for a difficult life choice.

Whatever it is you need, I am here to support you with the time and space you need to talk about everything and anything that is troubling you in your life, freely and in confidence.

Experience

I’ve always been drawn to helping people grow and navigate change.  Much of my career was in the public sector supporting people through coaching, training and I was also a wellbeing lead.

I began my counselling studies in 2018 at the Iron Mill College in Exeter whilst continuing to work in the public sector.  Partway through, I experienced burnout—a wake-up call that made me reflect on what truly mattered. That experience reinforced my commitment to supporting others on a one-to-one level.

As a trainee at the Margaret Jackson Centre, Exeter, I worked with clients facing anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, childhood trauma, agoraphobia, anger, and relationship challenges. That experience shaped the way I work today.

Now, as a practicing counsellor, I know that I made the right choice. Doing work that truly matters—being alongside people in their difficulty means a lot to me.  It’s a privilege to create a space where people feel heard, supported, and able to explore their struggles at their own pace.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

Firstly, I offer a free 30 minute, no obligation consultation either in person, online or by phone to help us decide if we'd be a good fit to work together and to see if I'm the right counsellor for you.

I then offer short courses of counselling as well as longer term therapy to explore deeper issues more fully.  Each session lasts 1 hour and normally takes place weekly.

My standard fees are £50 per session. I also offer concessions for students and those of state pension age at £45 per session.

I also hold a limited number of low cost spaces for those on a low income at £25 per session.  These low-cost sessions are available at my Teignmouth practice only. This is due to the lower overheads there, which allow me to offer counselling at a reduced rate.
