Stable Minds CIC - Your Safe Space for Support, Safety & Recovery

Stable Minds CIC is a non-profit mental health organisation based in Knutsford, Cheshire, providing accessible adult counselling and wellbeing support across Cheshire and Greater Manchester.

We believe everyone deserves a safe, confidential space to talk about what matters most, a place where you can be truly heard, accepted, and met as you are.

At Stable Minds, we work to remove the barriers that often stop people from seeking help. Our focus is on making counselling accessible, reducing waiting times, and ensuring compassionate, professional support for anyone in need.

Training, qualifications & experience

At Stable Minds CIC, our team is made up of qualified and experienced counsellors, psychotherapists, and wellness practitioners who bring a range of specialities and therapeutic approaches to their work.

Our practitioners include:

  • Integrative counsellors are trained in transactional analysis (TA), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), and person-centred therapy (PCT).
  • Person-centred counsellors offer compassionate, client-led support tailored to individuals' needs.
  • Psychotherapists are equipped with advanced training in transactional analysis and relational depth work.
  • Children’s counsellors are trained to level 6 in child and adolescent counselling with a trauma-informed approach.
  • Our team also includes a qualified play therapist who specialises in creative and sensory therapy for younger clients.
  • Our team also includes an addiction specialist who provides focused support on dependency, recovery, and relapse prevention.

Our organisation also includes Designated Safeguarding Leads trained to Level 4, and all staff are certified in both adult and child safeguarding.

Collectively, our team has experience across private practice, community mental-health services, schools, and charity settings. We work in line with the BACP and NCPS Ethical Frameworks, ensuring safe, professional, and inclusive practice for every client

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

We have verified that at least one professional at this organisation is registered with the relevant professional body.

Adult Counselling

  • Patrick or Milly - Senior Specialist Counsellors (£100 per session)
    Highly experienced practitioners offer advanced integrative counselling and psychotherapy.
  • Lead Counsellor (£60 per session)
    Senior practitioners with extensive post-qualification experience.
  • Qualified Counsellor (£45 per session)
    The counsellors are fully qualified and professionally registered.
  • Placement Counsellor (£20 per session)
    The counsellors are currently in the final stages of their training and working under supervision.
  • Fully Funded (Free)
    Clients on low income or in receipt of benefits can avail this service. Evidence of unemployment may be required. Current waiting time: approximately 12 weeks.

Children & Young People (CYP) Counselling

  • Milly - Senior Specialist Counsellor (£100 per session)
    Milly works with children and young people aged 3 and above, demonstrating a high level of experience in child and adolescent counselling.
  • Patrick - Senior Specialist Counsellor (£100 per session)
    Patrick, a Senior Specialist Counsellor, specialises in working with young individuals aged 16 and above, drawing on his extensive experience in both adolescent and adult counselling.
  • Lead Counsellor (£60 per session)
    Senior practitioners possess extensive post-qualification experience, providing support to children aged 3 years and above.
  • Placement Counsellor (£20 per session)
    Counsellors in final training, under supervision, are available for children aged 16 and above.
  • Fully Funded (Free)
    The program is specifically designed for families who are either receiving benefits or demonstrating unemployment. Current waiting time: approximately 12 weeks.

All income from private sessions is reinvested into providing funded counselling places and community wellbeing services - helping ensure that nobody is left without support.

At Stable Minds CIC, we believe that everyone should have access to support, regardless of their financial situation. Through our community funding and local partnerships, we are proud to offer fully funded or low-cost counselling sessions for individuals and families with low incomes or facing financial hardship.

We also provide:

  • Free adult drop-in sessions for anyone needing immediate emotional support or a safe space to talk.
  • Outreach counselling and wellbeing support for those unable to access our main premises due to health, mobility, or other barriers.
  • Wellbeing workshops, talks, and community events, helping raise awareness and reduce stigma around mental health.
  • A sensory tent that we bring to events and workplaces to create calm, inclusive wellbeing spaces.

Our work is guided by the belief that when people feel safe, heard, and supported, change becomes possible.
