About me
Life can sometimes feel overwhelming. You may be struggling with anxiety, stress, low mood, self-doubt, relationship difficulties, grief, or the impact of past experiences. Perhaps you're feeling stuck, exhausted, disconnected from yourself, or unsure how to move forward. Whatever has brought you here, counselling can offer a safe and confidential space to explore what's happening, make sense of your experiences, and help you move towards greater understanding, clarity and confidence.
I'm Sophie, a qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and Hypnotherapist offering in-person counselling in Keynsham, conveniently located between Bristol and Bath, as well as online counselling across the UK.
In today's busy and demanding world, many people find themselves carrying stress, worry and emotional burdens without enough time or space to process them. Emotional wellbeing is an essential part of living a balanced and fulfilling life, and counselling provides a valuable opportunity to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with yourself. I believe that being genuinely heard and understood can be a powerful starting point for self-discovery, and that talking with someone outside of your everyday life can make a meaningful difference.
I offer a warm, calm and confidential environment where you can talk openly about whatever is on your mind. Whether you are experiencing a difficult period in your life, struggling with a specific issue, or simply looking to understand yourself more deeply, I aim to provide a space where you feel heard, respected and supported without judgement.
Many clients come to counselling because they are finding it difficult to cope, while others simply want to understand themselves better, strengthen their relationships, improve their wellbeing, or navigate a period of change or uncertainty.
Clients often come to me because they are looking for a therapist who offers a calm, supportive and down-to-earth approach, where there is space to explore thoughts and feelings openly, without pressure, and at a pace that feels right for them.
How I Can Help
I often work with clients experiencing:
- Anxiety
- Stress
- Depression and low mood
- Low self-esteem and confidence
- Relationship issues and difficulties
- Family issues and difficulties
- Difficulties with work / life balance
- Grief and loss
- Life transitions and identity questions
- The impact of trauma and past experiences
- Feeling overwhelmed, stuck or lacking direction
Alongside counselling, I can also integrate hypnotherapy and guided relaxation techniques where helpful, particularly for anxiety, stress management and building confidence.
My Approach
There is no "one-size-fits-all" approach to counselling. We are all unique, with our own experiences, challenges and ways of making sense of the world. For this reason, I work in a pluralistic and predominantly person-centred way, tailoring our work together to your individual needs, goals and circumstances.
I offer a non-directive approach, creating space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences in your own way. Depending on what feels helpful, we may also draw upon a range of therapeutic approaches and techniques to deepen understanding, support personal growth and facilitate meaningful change. This may include exploring past experiences, identifying patterns and coping strategies, or using creative exercises where appropriate.
My role is not to tell you what to do, but to walk alongside you, offering thoughtful reflection, gentle challenge and support as you develop greater self-awareness, understanding and choice.
What to Expect
Starting counselling can feel daunting, particularly if it is your first experience of therapy. I aim to provide compassionate and steady support throughout the process.
In our initial sessions, we will explore what has brought you to therapy, what you would like from our work together, and which approaches may feel most supportive for you. These can be reviewed and adapted throughout the counselling process to ensure our work continues to meet your needs.
The length of counselling varies from person to person. Some clients attend for a shorter period to focus on a specific issue, while others choose longer-term therapy to explore deeper or more complex concerns. We will regularly review our work together to ensure it remains helpful and aligned with your goals.
Ending therapy is an important part of the counselling process and will always be discussed and planned collaboratively. Some clients also find occasional check-in sessions helpful when navigating new challenges, and these can be arranged if needed.
Free Initial Consultation Available
Choosing the right therapist is an important decision and that is why I offer a free 20-minute telephone or online consultation, giving you the opportunity to ask questions, discuss what brings you to therapy, and get a sense of whether working together feels right for you.
