About me
I am a fully qualified UKCP and BACP registered integrative transpersonal psychotherapist.
My relationship with therapy began long before I became a therapist myself. When I was a teenager, my mother died. Therapy became a place where I could begin to process my grief, understand myself and slowly work out who I wanted to become. Looking back, I genuinely don't believe I would be the person I am today without that experience. It showed me first-hand just how transformative therapy can be, and ultimately inspired me to train as a psychotherapist myself.
I've also had a varied life outside the therapy room. Before focusing on psychotherapy, I worked in media and founded BALANCE, an award-winning wellbeing magazine which I ran for many years. I feel these experiences, along with the many hiccups, pressures and dead ends along the way, have contributed to making me a more compassionate, relatable and realistic therapist. I'm very aware of the realities of modern life, from relationships and parenthood to career, ambition, burnout and the sometimes complicated question of what we actually want from our lives.
What you won't find is an inactive therapist who says nothing!
The therapeutic relationship is at the heart of my work, and I hope you will find in me a compassionate, warm and straight-talking human being. My style is active and collaborative. I'll listen deeply, but I'll also ask questions, offer observations, notice patterns and gently challenge you when I think it might be useful.
My approach couples deep inner psychological work with helping you find a practical way forward. We might explore old wounds or relationships, the patterns you find yourself repeating, or parts of yourself you've lost touch with. Equally, therapy can be about the future: your relationships, career, creativity, purpose, the life you want to build and the person you are becoming.
No two clients are ever the same, and I will meet you where you are.
As an integrative therapist, I draw on different approaches according to the person sitting in front of me. This might include attachment theory, behavioural experiments, visualisation, Inner Child and parts work, mindfulness, body and breath work, or accessing the creative imagination.
Transpersonal psychotherapy also leaves room for some of life's bigger questions: identity, meaning, purpose, loss, change and what it means to live a life that feels authentically your own.
I truly believe we can turn our murky stuff into gold.
My book and wider work
I am the author of You Are Not Alone In This: Supporting a Loved One's Mental Health Without Losing Your Own, published by Watkins in 2025.
The book grew out of something I had seen repeatedly, both personally and professionally: when somebody is struggling with their mental health, the people who love them can struggle enormously too. It explores relationships, boundaries, communication, difficult emotions and how we can care deeply for another person without losing ourselves in the process.
Alongside my clinical practice, I have taught developmental theory to trainee counsellors at Highgate Counselling Centre and have spoken and written widely about psychology, mental health and wellbeing. Psycho-education is an important part of my work. I believe understanding why we think, feel and behave as we do can be enormously empowering, particularly when that understanding is combined with deeper emotional work.
How I work
I work with individual adults and see clients face-to-face in central London, as well as offering a limited number of online sessions.
People come to me for many different reasons, including anxiety, grief and bereavement, relationship difficulties, trauma, burnout, low self-worth, family dynamics, major life transitions, career and purpose, and the feeling that something simply isn't quite right, even when life looks successful from the outside.
I also work with founders, entrepreneurs, creatives and people in demanding or high-profile careers. I don't see our professional and personal selves as separate. Our ambition, relationships, self-worth, fears and history inevitably travel with us into our work.
I generally work with clients weekly, either for an agreed period or as longer-term psychotherapy, depending on what we decide together.
Testimonials
"Sophie balances warmth, sensitivity and empathy with honesty, and has an ability to challenge and question in a way that stimulates thought and self reflection without ever coming across as abrasive or judgemental. Would recommend her without hesitation."
Testimonial by R.C.
"She creates a haven for me once a week where I can safely explore everything and anything. She's opened my eyes to new ways of thinking, and is genuinely so good at what she does. Above all, she cares deeply and you can tell. I'm so grateful to Sophie for taking me this far and opening my eyes to the power of self-acceptance, and helping me realise that there is a lot of hope for the future."

"Sophie has really changed my life."

Training, qualifications & experience
I trained at the Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education (CCPE) in London and am a UKCP registered psychotherapist and BACP registered member.
My integrative transpersonal training allows me to draw on a broad range of psychological traditions rather than asking every client to fit within one particular model. Depending on what is most useful, our work may incorporate psychodynamic and relational thinking, attachment theory, behavioural approaches, mindfulness, visualisation, body and breath work, Inner Child or parts work, and the creative imagination.
I have also taught developmental theory to trainee counsellors at Highgate Counselling Centre and continue to engage in regular professional development and clinical supervision.
Before becoming a psychotherapist, I founded and ran BALANCE magazine, an award-winning wellbeing media brand. I am also an author, speaker and writer on psychology, relationships and mental health.

Training, qualifications & experience
As an integrative therapist with 7+ years of training behind me (CCPE), I pull on a variety of different tools, such as working with attachment style, setting behavioural experiments, using visualisation, doing Inner Child work, practising mindfulness, body and breath work, and accessing the creative imagination, plus many more. I am also a lecturer at Highgate Counselling Centre, teaching developmental theory on the Diploma course, and am a big believer in the importance of psycho-education.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
