About me

I’m a BACP-registered Therapeutic Counsellor working with people who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected, even if on the outside everything looks fine.

Maybe you’re anxious, low, tearful, irritable, or just not sure why things feel off. Or perhaps you know something needs to change, but aren’t sure what the next step is.

People often come to therapy when life feels heavier than it should — stress builds up, relationships feel difficult, work takes over, or a change or loss knocks things off balance. Sometimes, it’s simply that you’ve been carrying too much on your own for too long, feeling far from the person you want to be.

In our sessions, we will gently explore what has been shaping you — your experiences, relationships, what is happening now, and how this shows up emotionally and in your body. We can go at your pace, without judgement, focusing on what feels most important to you.

I offer a warm, grounded, comfortable space where you can bring whatever is weighing on you. That might be anxiety, low mood, emotional overwhelm, relationship difficulties, work stress, burnout, grief, or a sense that something needs attention.

I have worked with people from many walks of life, including NHS professionals, creatives, executives, teachers, students, engineers, performers, and more. My aim is that you leave sessions feeling heard, understood, and less alone.

I’ve found that brief 30-minute introductory calls often don’t allow enough space for people to properly arrive or talk about what’s bringing them to therapy. Because of this, for a limited time, I’m offering a free full 50-minute initial session instead - just drop me an email at sophie.okelly@live.com to arrange.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

This list isn’t exhaustive. Sometimes what brings you to therapy doesn’t fit neatly into a category, and you don’t need to have a clear explanation to begin.

I’ve found that brief 30-minute introductory calls often don’t allow enough space for people to properly arrive or talk about what’s bringing them to therapy. Because of this, for a limited time, I’m offering a free full 50-minute initial session instead.
