About me

I am committed to the counselling process as one which works to help people with better understand themselves and their personal circumstances. My own experience of therapy at various stages in my life led me on the journey of becoming qualified as a person-centred counsellor. I believe everyone can benefit from having a safe space to be heard, to explore their challenges and to learn to set personal boundaries to enhance their lives.

Counselling helped me to understand and process difficult situations in my life, and I now have the privilege of providing a safe environment for others to benefit from. I encourage open, genuine and honest conversations, and do this by being accepting and non-judgemental of everyone I work with. The business name – Sonder – recognises that everyone has a life as vivid and complex as our own, everyone struggles at times.

I am trained as a person-centred counsellor. Person centred means the conversation is centred on you, the expert in your world. Sometimes it can be hard to work things out on your own, and that is where I come in. Together we can untangle some of the difficult feelings and confusion that can impact on our ability to fully function.

I am also a qualified counselling supervisor, with experience of working with adults and young people aged 12-18 years. I encourage adult counsellors, those working with young people or student counsellors to get in touch to have a conversation about supervision.

I am trained as a trauma-informed therapist and am committed to regarding everyone I work with as an equal with equal respect. Equality is very important to me, and I can offer experience and support to people from the LGBTQ+ community without prejudice, as well as people from any other protected group, who may have experienced judgement and discrimination.

I work out of a lovely summerhouse in my garden in the Falkirk area or can work remotely, depending on your availability and location. If you would like a chat, to see if you would feel comfortable working with me, please get in touch for a free initial discussion either face to face, on the phone or by video chat.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Key details

PVG Scheme info

In Scotland, criminal records checks are carried out by Disclosure Scotland. Professionals working with children or vulnerable adults must join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. You can learn more at mygov.scot , or contact this professional directly.

Wheelchair user access info
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

I have a ramp that runs down to the summerhouse, and double doors that open to allow wheelchair access, there is a small 'lip' into the premises.
