About me

I work with adults who may appear to be coping well on the outside, but underneath feel overwhelmed, disconnected, stuck in familiar patterns or unsure why life doesn’t feel quite right.

You may be someone who is used to getting on with things, supporting other people or appearing capable, while privately feeling anxious, exhausted, not good enough, or caught in patterns that are difficult to change.

My approach is relational, integrative and attachment-informed. I’m interested not only in what has happened to you, but in how earlier experiences and relationships may continue to shape the way you see yourself, relate to others and respond to the world around you. Together, we can begin to make sense of those patterns and understand what may be keeping you feeling stuck.

I have a particular interest in neurodiversity and in the often unseen impact it can have on relationships, identity and family life. My MA research explored the experiences of fathers raising autistic adolescents, including themes of responsibility, uncertainty and the emotional demands of parenting.

My style is warm, engaged and collaborative. I am not a passive therapist who simply sits and listens. I will think with you, reflect what I notice, ask questions and gently challenge. I bring humanity to the work and, where it feels appropriate, humour too. Therapy can involve difficult and painful conversations, but it does not have to feel relentlessly serious. We might cry, we might laugh, but we will do so with honesty and curiosity.

You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what you want to say or where to begin. Sometimes the starting point is simply knowing that something does not feel right.

I offer individual counselling and psychotherapy to adults from my private practice in Surbiton and online. Sessions are 50 minutes and usually take place weekly. I also offer a free 15-minute introductory call so that we can briefly discuss what has brought you to therapy and whether working together feels like the right fit.

Training, qualifications & experience

Alongside my private practice, I work within an NHS primary care setting, providing one-to-one counselling to adults. This has given me experience of working with a broad range of emotional and relational difficulties in a structured, time-limited setting.

My own life has taught me many things, one of which is that things don’t always follow a linear path. Before retraining, I spent many years in the corporate world and later founded and ran my own health and fitness business for almost 20 years. Those experiences taught me a great deal about pressure, responsibility, relationships and the gap that can exist between appearing capable on the outside and how someone may actually be feeling underneath.

My previous careers still shape the way I work today. I’m naturally quite practical and one of life’s 'doers', so I understand the pull to keep going, sort things out and find a way through. Therapy has taught me the importance of slowing down enough to notice the deeper patterns, relationships and emotions that may be influencing how we feel and live.

Earlier in my counselling journey, I volunteered with Cruse Bereavement Support, providing one-to-one emotional support to bereaved adults. Alongside this I completed Level 2 and Level 3 counselling training, all of which helped confirm that I wanted to move fully into therapeutic work.

I went on to complete an MA in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy through BACP-accredited training, combining academic study with extensive supervised clinical practice.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
