About me
You might be feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stuck, or simply know that something in your life doesn’t feel quite right. You don’t need to have it all worked out, or even know exactly what you want to talk about, before coming to counselling. I am a warm, honest and down-to-earth counsellor. I won’t sit in silence analysing you or tell you what I think you should do. I will listen, ask questions, sometimes gently challenge you, and help you explore what is going on beneath the surface. My approach is person-centred and integrative, so our work will be shaped around you. Together we can explore your experiences, relationships, emotions and patterns, helping you understand yourself better and find a way forward that feels right for you.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a qualified counsellor with a CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and a CPCAB Level 3 qualification in Counselling Studies. I also have a degree in Anthropology. My counselling approach is primarily person-centred, while also drawing on other approaches where they may be helpful. This can include exploring patterns from the past, relationships and attachment, as well as using practical CBT-based tools to help with things such as unhelpful thinking patterns, anxiety and self-esteem. Alongside my counselling training, I have a wider professional background in support work, education, youth work, safeguarding and pastoral care. This experience has given me the opportunity to work alongside people from many different backgrounds and at very different points in their lives.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

You might not have a label for how you’re feeling, you may just feel stuck, overwhelmed or not quite yourself. I can help with things like overthinking, people pleasing, difficulty setting boundaries, guilt, shame, low confidence and patterns in relationships that keep repeating.

Further information
If you are thinking about counselling but are not quite sure where to start, you are welcome to get in touch for an initial conversation. There’s no pressure to commit to counselling, it’s simply a chance for us to talk about what has brought you here, for you to ask any questions, and to get a feel for whether I might be the right counsellor for you. I offer 50-minute sessions, both face-to-face in the Chelmsford and Maldon area and online via Google Meet. I currently offer appointments Monday to Friday, mainly in the late afternoon and evening. Counselling can be short-term or longer-term depending on what you need. We can talk about this together and review how things are feeling as our work progresses.
