About me

Hi, I'm Sandie, a professional counsellor based in Hitchin.

Sometimes our mind can become cluttered with racing thoughts that make us feel anxious and stop us from moving forward and living the life we wish for. When this happens we can be left feeling stuck, helpless, or just really frustrated.

Perhaps you feel the weight of current or past difficulties is holding you back and interfering with your work or family relationships. Maybe it's a loss such as: bereavement or a significant life event that have left you feeling conflicted and confused. Sometimes we can cope with challenging life events, other times they grind us down leaving us feel feeling alone in our struggle.

At times like this counselling can help.

I can help you by offering a calm and confidential space for you to pause. Together we can talk through your difficulties, think about your experiences, contemplate what they mean to you and empower you to find a way forward.

You may want to focus on current problems and at other times it may be helpful to think about how your past is impacting on your present situation. I welcome whatever issues you wish to bring, explored at your own place.

When we feel overwhelmed, the thought of making the changes we hope for can seem daunting, but it is completely normal to feel this way. I understand that, trusting a counsellor with your thoughts and feelings takes time and courage. I am patient and compassionate and will do my utmost to make you feel welcome and safe, enabling you to get the most from counselling. My background in nursing underpins my rigorous counselling training which gives me a unique insight and additional information into how emotional difficulties impact physical health.

I invite you to contact me by email or phone, if you have any questions and to arrange a free initial 15 minute phone consultation. This will be an opportunity for us to have a brief chat about what is going on for you right now and how I can help you. Should you then wish to go ahead with counselling, we can book your first appointment.

Sessions are 1 to 1 and last 50 minutes. This comes with no obligation to commit to further sessions and is an opportunity to see if my approach suits you.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
