About me

Hi, I am Sam and I'm qualified in two types of talking therapies: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT) which are both evidenced based approaches and endorsed by the NHS.

Change is Possible. I have worked with hundreds of clients with common mental health problems including Generalised Anxiety, Social Anxiety, Health Anxiety, Panic Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, Depression and those with Interpersonal/Relationship Difficulties. I have witnessed the incredible efforts clients have made with my support to reduce their problems and to live better. I will work with you to overcome your problems and remove barriers to continued personal growth.

Firstly I will support you in sharing your experiences so we can begin to gain a clearer understanding of the main issues. We will think about your goals and discuss the types of therapy we think might be suitable. When ready, we will begin to work towards making positive changes in your life. Most of my clients see improvements between 8-20 sessions.

Clients who come to me are often stressed, anxious or experiencing low mood. They may be having negative or intrusive thoughts, be self-critical, weighed down by high expectations or have lost meaning and motivation. They may feel anxious around people and have difficulties in their relationships.

If you would like my support or to have a brief chat, you can contact me by email or book online. If I do not think I have the expertise to help you with your problems, I can still be there to discuss what might be helpful for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have nine years' experience of working for Talking Therapy services delivering CBT to clients aged 16 and above, presenting with a range of common mental health conditions. I have worked in the NHS since 2020 as a CBT therapist. Before that, I worked as a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner in Salford for a social enterprise that specialised in brief CBT. I have also experienced my own mental health problems so I know how difficult that can be but also how we can overcome problems.

I specialise in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT). In CBT we try to understand problems and equip clients with strategies to view and deal with their problems more effectively. In CBT we typically spend 2-3 sessions building an understanding of your problems and then after we focus more on treating the problems. CBT can typically last between 12 to 20 sessions but may be shorter or longer for some clients.

Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT) is based on psychodynamic and attachment theories. In DIT, we will aim to develop a understanding of unhelpful patterns which are often unconscious in relationships. Through this awareness we can then make more positive choices. In Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT), the model is based on 16 sessions. My training was completed at the Anna Freud Centre in London. While this is available at some NHS services, there are considerably less qualified DIT therapists compared to CBT therapists and counsellors.
