About me

Life can feel overwhelming. You may have spent years looking after everyone else, holding it all together, and now find yourself wondering, “What about me? Who even am I anymore?”

Whether it’s anxiety that won’t switch off, the weight of grief, or a quiet sense that you’ve lost yourself somewhere along the way, you don’t have to face it alone.

I offer a calm, confidential space where you can speak freely, without judgement or pressure. Together, we’ll gently untangle what’s been weighing on you so you can begin to feel more like yourself again.

About Me

I’m Samantha Chater, a BACP Registered Counsellor and Clinical Hypnotherapist with many years’ experience supporting people through life’s challenges. Clients often describe me as warm, grounded, and easy to talk to.

I frequently work with people who feel stuck or unsure who they are anymore often after years of caring for others, meeting expectations, and keeping everything afloat. Counselling with me is about slowing down, making sense of what’s happening, and reconnecting with yourself at your own pace.

Alongside counselling, I also offer hypnotherapy for anxiety, confidence, and patterns that feel hard to shift. You can integrate this into your sessions or focus purely on counselling, the choice is always yours.

What I Can Help With:

Anxiety & Overthinking – Racing thoughts, constant “what ifs,” lying awake at 3am. We’ll explore what’s driving your anxiety and find practical ways to help you feel steadier and more in control.

ADHD – You may be living with ADHD, wondering if it could fit, or only just beginning to recognise those traits in yourself. This can show up as overwhelm, overthinking, emotional highs and lows, difficulty switching off, burnout, people pleasing, or feeling as though life is harder than it seems to be for everyone else. Together, we can make sense of your experience with compassion, understand the impact it is having on your daily life and relationships, and find ways of working with your mind rather than against it.

Loss of Self & Life Changes – Menopause, children growing up, caring roles, relationship changes, or reaching a stage of life that feels unfamiliar. We’ll explore what matters to you now and help you rediscover direction.

Grief & Loss – Whether you’ve lost a person, your health, a relationship, or the life you thought you’d have, I offer a safe space to grieve in your own way, without having to be strong for everyone else.

Relationship Difficulties – Relationships can feel confusing, especially when you want closeness but find yourself pulling away, over-giving, or reacting in ways you later question. You might struggle to express how you really feel, avoid conflict to keep the peace, or notice the same patterns repeating again and again. In counselling, we’ll gently explore what’s happening beneath the surface, where these patterns began, what you need now, and how to build healthier, steadier connections without losing yourself in the process.

Trauma & Inner Child Work – Trauma isn’t always a single event. It can stem from ongoing stress, neglect, or never feeling fully seen or supported. We’ll move gently, helping you understand your responses, feel more grounded in the present, and begin to process painful patterns without becoming overwhelmed.

Low Self-Worth & People Pleasing – If you’ve spent years putting yourself last, we’ll explore where those patterns began and help you build healthier boundaries, self-trust, and a stronger sense of your own value.

I also support clients with low mood, confidence, sleep difficulties, perfectionism, stress, fears and phobias, and general overwhelm.

Why Now?

You may have been coping alone for a long time, pushing through and telling yourself you’ll deal with it later. But something has brought you here.

Counselling offers a place to pause, make sense of what’s been building up, and take manageable steps towards feeling lighter and more grounded.

You don’t need to wait until you reach breaking point.

Training, qualifications & experience

I’ve been working therapeutically with people since 2006, supporting individuals from a variety of backgrounds and life experiences.  My work alongside private practice has included:

  • Unpaid carers at Trafford Carers – Many of these clients were emotionally stretched and often overlooked, juggling the demands of caring for others with little time for themselves. I supported them in finding space to be seen, heard, and to process their own feelings.
  • Bereaved clients through Cruse Bereavement Support – I offered a compassionate, non-judgemental space for people navigating grief, where they could sit with their loss without needing to “fix” themselves or explain their feelings.
  • Employees at Pladis UK (McVitie’s, Jacob’s) –  I supported staff experiencing anxiety, stress, low mood, trauma, confidence issues, and challenges related to long-term health conditions.

Each of these roles has deepened my understanding of how life can chip away at you over time.  How loss, stress, and change can quietly erode confidence, direction, and a sense of self. And each has shown me how powerful it can be to simply have a safe, supportive space where you can be heard and begin to make sense of your experience.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
