About me

Hello, my name is Sally, I have 17 years experience as a counsellor, I am a qualified mentor and clinical supervisor.

I specialise in Relationship Issues such as with Family, Partners, Friends, Neighbours, Colleagues, Managers or Staff at work, Teachers, Pupils and Peers at college, Customers/Service Users or Pets.

It is not always easy to ‘have that awkward conversation’, look at painful or misunderstood communications, whether it's with ‘in-laws’, over wedding plans or whether or not you actually like them. Cultural clashes, sexuality, race, religion, traditions, customs, beliefs or class issues sometimes play a big part in disagreements.

There may be a power dynamic such as in a place of Work or College where there can be a competitive atmosphere between staff and managers or students and tutors or maybe it brings up a fear of authority figures.

Unresolved family arguments, or disagreements such as people's choice of partner, religious or political beliefs. Family expectations such as going to university, getting a professional job, marrying into the faith, becoming an unpaid carer. Feeling loss or abandonment from a parent/parents or a child may bring up anger, rage, resentment, and sadness.

A partner may have betrayed you or you wish to end a relationship but don't know how. They may wish to start a family, but the time is not right for you?

Loss of a loved one, or anticipatory grief is often a lonely and misunderstood time for people. Has someone died as a result of a tragedy, a log drawn out illness or suddenly .Diagnosis of a terminal illness may be hard for others to hear about.

Abuse or historic abuse and incest can be a delicate area for communication as it brings up painful, often traumatic events and memories, sometimes combined with a sense of shame. The same with suicidal thoughts or feelings or being bereaved to suicide.

It could be challenging to confront your neighbour on an issue that’s been bugging you, as they are in close proximity. What could the fallout be?

That ‘friend’ who you feel you have grown apart from or has betrayed your trust.

Losing a pet can be overlooked by others as to the deep impact it has on you. This is often a forgotten area of grief, along with immense sadness at losing them.

Sibling rivalry is a sensitive issue that is not always an easy conversation as it's again one that is often overlooked due to the impact it may have upon the wider family.

Alongside these issues and many others this may create feelings of anxiety, depression, low mood, low self-worth, shame or anger which can be explored in therapy in a relaxing, non judgmental atmosphere at your own pace.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
