About me

I want to give you the insight you need but don't yet have. Something that helps you connect the dots or find the piece of the puzzle that will help you deal with the problem you are facing. Maybe despite your determination to change you continue to make the same mistakes or choices? Maybe your responses or emotions don't seem to be appropriate to what is happening around you but you can't seem to change how you feel? Maybe you feel destined to be stuck in a cycle of negative thoughts, emotions, relationships, situations or behaviours?

I work in many different ways, no one system suits all, but I particularly like to work with internal images. These are linked to the subconscious and can often identify the heart of the problem quickly and with a clarity that creates a map for the rest of the therapy to follow. But don't worry if images don't sound like your thing I am an integrative counsellor and so just as happy working in a Person Centred way with CBT, EMDR or Internal Family Systems. Overall I would say I am creative and courageous - always looking to get you where you want to be, in the way that works best for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am qualified as a counsellor to degree level.

I work for the NHS with patients that have symptoms of post-traumatic stress, anxiety and depression after being critically unwell and needing treatment in the intensive care unit. I help them recover from traumatic memories of psychosis, hallucinations and fear of death and manage ongoing changes to their health, physical abilities and lifestyle.

In my private work, I help people with a wide range of issues from long-standing mental health problems, bereavement, making a life change or trying to deal with changes that life chose for them.

I approach this vast range of challenges in surprisingly similar ways because while our experiences might differ, our brains do not. The brain uses past experience to make sense of current situations and predict what will happen next. These predictions prepare your body to respond ahead of danger in order to keep you safe. These physical sensations have a significant impact on your feelings and behaviour, for example if your brain just predicted danger and prepares your body to run, you're likely to feel fear. But what if the predictions are wrong? Well that's how we learn, the brain corrects its prediction and takes onboard the new information. But if this new information and learning is linked to a negative experience, then a pattern of negative predictions might be the result.

Whatever situation you are facing, if you would like to find out if your problem or worry is something I can help you with then please get in touch.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I have intentionally limited my selection from the list provided. This is because there are so many factors that affect us as individuals I would be happier discussing your counselling need with you before you decide whether I am what you are looking for.
