About me

I am a person-centred counsellor, with additional training as an end of life doula. I help people who are struggling with loss and grief of all kinds, to feel less overwhelmed, more open to new experiences, and more trusting of themselves.

How counselling can help with grief, loss and major life changes

You might be moving through a significant loss, ending, or life transition and looking for a calm, thoughtful space to make sense of what has happened.

People appreciate my considered, steady and trustworthy presence. If that's something you're looking for I might be a good fit for you.

If you are:

  • bereaved
  • experiencing anticipatory grief for someone living with a life-limiting illness
  • facing divorce or the end of a relationship
  • rebuilding your life after abuse
  • dealing with a medical diagnosis
  • experiencing major family or life changes

You might be feeling:

  • that your world has been turned upside down
  • that your sense of yourself has been shaken
  • frightened
  • overwhelmed and unable to cope
  • isolated, lonely or disconnected from yourself and others
  • uncertain about decisions (big and small)
  • rigid, brittle or irritable
  • on high-alert, or numb
  • critical of yourself and others

I can support you to:

  • make sense of what has happened
  • understand yourself more deeply
  • gradually find a way forward

The type of counselling I offer

I offer person-centred counselling. It is based on the belief that we all have the natural tendency within us for self-discovery and self-direction.

This means that you, and only you, can decide the meaning of your experiences and what you should do next. You could use words like 'learning', 'growth', 'healing' or 'creativity' to describe this process.

I love this approach because it's very different to what we might experience in other areas of our lives. I will not be in the role of 'expert' or direct you to any particular course of action. Instead, we will be working and learning together.

This can be a deeply satisfying process. You may begin to find it easier to be yourself: honest about who you are, how you feel and what you value.

What to expect in a session

I offer face-to-face counselling sessions for adults in comfortable and discreet therapy rooms in the centre of Norwich.

In our sessions, my role will be to create an environment and a relationship that you can use to find your own direction.

I will do this by:

  • listening carefully to understand your thoughts and feelings as fully as possible
  • accepting you as you are, and not telling you what you should do or how you should feel
  • being a genuine person who is willing to be open and honest

While it might sound simple, it is amazing how feeling fully heard and accepted can create the freedom you need to discover how you really feel and what you would like to do.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
