About me

I’m Ruth, a psychotherapist, yoga teacher, and facilitator based in Glasgow. My work is integrative and creative - there is no single “right” way to do therapy, and together we’ll find what truly supports you. I offer talking therapy, somatic sessions informed by my yoga training, and Reiki for those who wish to work with energy-based healing.

Resilience often feels messy and overwhelming. In therapy, you’ll have a safe place to understand your internal experience, build tolerance for difficult emotions, and begin shifting patterns that feel stuck. If you’re looking to reconnect with meaning, strengthen your sense of self, and move towards a more authentic life, I’m here to support you.

Training, qualifications & experience

Before becoming a therapist, I spent over 10 years in the humanitarian sector, supporting people through significant life challenges. This experience deepened my belief in the power of communication - both with ourselves and the world around us - as a key to well-being. I’m passionate about helping people reconnect with themselves, heal from past wounds, and gain a deeper understanding of how their experiences shape their world. My background in activism and community work has given me unique insight into how personal well-being is tied to both individual experiences and broader social issues.

Person-Centred Therapy has been deeply transformative for me. It’s helped me gain a better understanding of myself and supported my own healing journey. That’s why I’m so passionate about helping others do the same - providing the space and support for people to take control of their healing, at their own pace and in their own way. I’m also committed to advocating for human, social, and political rights, believing that real well-being comes from both inner healing and creating a more supportive, just world. My approach is always holistic, recognizing that mind, body, and spirit are all connected in the process of healing.

I hold an MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Strathclyde, a certificate in COSCA counselling skills, and certificates from the Institute of Counselling in Therapeutic Counselling and Grief and Bereavement Counselling. I am a certified yoga teacher with over 10 years of experience, offering bespoke classes and projects with the Change Collective and Machair Therapeutics. Alongside my therapy practice, I work part-time for Rape Crisis Scotland, providing therapeutic support to survivors of sexual violence in Scotland.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

Machair is a word used to describe a unique coastal landscape found in the Scottish Highlands and islands. These fertile, sandy plains sit alongside the sea and are shaped over time by wind, water, and time. Machair Therapeutics reflects how I understand healing - slow, resilient, and deeply connected to the environments we live in.

In many ways, therapy is like the machair. It offers the right conditions for growth, even when life has been challenging or unsettled. In our work together, we create space for insight, healing, and change to emerge at your own pace. I believe there is no single way to “do” therapy. Each person is different, and my approach is collaborative, creative, and led by what feels right for you.

Machair exists through balance - between natural forces and careful tending. Similarly, therapy and self-development involve exploring the relationship between who we are at our core and how our experiences, relationships, and wider social worlds have shaped us. Like the machair, we are resilient.

Machair Therapeutics is rooted in the work of Carl Rogers and the Person-Centred approach, which is based on acceptance, respect, honest communication, and unconditional positive regard. When someone feels truly heard and valued, change can happen naturally.

Person-Centred Therapy creates a safe, non-judgemental space where you can explore your experiences, reconnect with your authentic self, and begin to trust yourself more fully.

Alongside my therapy training, I am also a trained yoga teacher, and these two practices deeply inform one another. Yoga has taught me the importance of listening to the body, working with the nervous system, and understanding healing as something that happens over time, with patience and love.
