Relationship and Sex Counsellor Online and in person

About me

Hello, I’m Ruth. I  work with individuals and couples who are experiencing difficulties in their relationships.

I support people  with a range of relational challenges, including communication difficulties, issues around intimacy and sex, and compulsive sexual behaviours. I also have  experience working with individuals and couples where neurodivergence may be part of the dynamic within a relationship. An important part of my practice is helping men develop deeper connections with their partners.

My practice is inclusive and affirming. I welcome clients from diverse backgrounds, including those in LGBTQ+ relationships and those exploring consensual non-monogamy or polyamory.

My approach is relational, collaborative, and supportive. I aim to create a space where you feel able to speak openly about your experiences, while also offering gentle direction and support where this may be helpful.

I offer a space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours in depth, develop greater awareness, and begin to find new ways of relating to yourself and to your partner or partners

I am interested not only in the difficulties you bring, but also in what may be happening within the therapeutic relationship itself. I pay attention to patterns, emotional responses, and what may be emerging beneath the surface, as a way of deepening understanding and supporting meaningful change.

An important part of my work is to help you navigate conflict constructively and understand how to effectively repair after conflict and disagreements

Specifically I  help people who have difficulties with:

  • Communication difficulties
  • Neurodivergence  (including Rejection Sensitivity and sexual issues)
  • Sexual issues including Porn and Sexual compulsivity
  • Women with libido difficulties
  • Affairs and other ruptures
  • Ethical non monogamy and polyamory
  • Difficulty in maintaining safe and enduring relationships

My aim is to support you in understanding why you feel and respond in the ways you do, to explore where these patterns may come from, and to help you move towards a way of living that feels more manageable, meaningful, and supportive of you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified relational Transactional Analysis psychotherapist with a specialist postgraduate diploma in couples and sex therapy.

I also hold a diploma in working with people who experience compulsive sexual behaviours, and I have completed additional training in working with consensual non-monogamy. I have extensive training in the Developmental Model of couples therapy.

I am a qualified clinical supervisor and work with both trainees and experienced practitioners.

I regularly undertake Continuing Professional Development to ensure my practice remains current, ethical, and responsive to the needs of my clients.

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
