About me
About me
Hi I'm Roya, although I'm currently fully booked for ongoing sessions, if you're interested in counselling with me then please do still get in touch for a free consultation and we can see if you'd like to join the waiting list.
If you're looking for a quiet therapist who just listens; I should let you know that I definitely talk too much for that! I talk a lot (for a counsellor) and that can be something that clients really value but may not be for everyone.
I know how daunting it can feel to reach out for counselling, often it’s a step people put off for a long time. You might be here because something painful has happened that you don’t want to carry alone. You’ve already taken a brave first step just by looking for support.
How I can help
Maybe you’re struggling with low self-confidence and feel held back from living the life you’d like. Perhaps you’ve experienced bereavement and need someone to sit with you in your grief. Or it could be that a relationship isn’t working out the way you had hoped, leaving you feeling stuck or unsure of what to do next.
My background
Although I was born in Chatham and speak only English, I come from a mixed-heritage background. This has shaped the way I see and relate to the world, and it matters to me to be culturally aware and sensitive to people’s experiences. I welcome people from all walks of life, religions, and backgrounds.
I left school at 16 to study art, and I have a degree in Fine Art. I've worked in lots of pubs, shops, in education and for various charities before becoming a therapist. My student placement was as a bereavement counsellor in a NHS hospice, three years later I'm still working there one morning a week. I'm also a wife, mother, daughter and sister, who juggles life!
I begun my counselling training in 2017, and qualified as a counsellor in 2024.
Alongside my clinical work, I write about therapy and relationships. My work has been featured in Metro, HuffPost, the Evening Standard, Yahoo News, Stylist, BACP and Therapy Today.
What to expect in sessions
Our sessions will take place in a calm counselling space within a local arts centre. I offer traditional talking therapy and, if it feels helpful, creative activities. This isn’t about being good at art or even thinking of yourself as creative, it’s simply another way of expressing what’s inside, especially when words feel hard to find. If creative approaches don’t feel right for you, we’ll leave them aside. What matters most is that you feel comfortable and supported.
My approach
Counselling is a very personal process, and it’s important you feel you can trust the person sitting with you. I work within the BACP’s ethical framework, which places trust, respect, and care at the centre of the counselling relationship.
Next steps
If you’d like to explore whether Talking Art Studio could be a good fit for you, we can begin with a free 20-minute online consultation. And if it turns out I’m not the right counsellor for you, I’ll do my best to signpost you somewhere more suitable.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
