About me
Making initial contact with a counsellor or psychotherapist can be difficult, and many people feel anxious in doing so (speaking from experience) . My aim is to make this process as supportive as possible for you; I offer a professional counselling service which is warm, empathic, non-judgemental, and flexible to your needs.
People come to counselling and psychotherapy for a variety of reasons. These may include feelings of distress, hopelessness, anxiety and/or unease, and often not knowing quite why you feel this way; a sense that ‘something just doesn’t feel quite right’. Maybe you are experiencing problematic thoughts and behaviours – thinking, feeling and/or behaving in ways which may lead to feelings of embarrassment, shame, or feeling a need to disappear. Or maybe you are experiencing feelings of low self-esteem, feeling depressed and unable to engage with life, feeling pessimistic, misunderstood and alienated.
Drawing from a variety of therapeutic models, I craft personalised sessions that address the individual challenges and aspirations of those I support. My model of therapy draws primarily on psychodynamic and person-centred theory, focusing on the therapeutic relationship as we work together. I also have knowledge of CBT, which I often use in my work with the NHS.
My focus is on identifying the underlying triggers for emotional distress, including anxiety, depression, trauma, low confidence, relationship and family issues or a variety of other reasons, and I employ a range of techniques to address these issues effectively. I work with people experiencing a wide range of difficulties from many different backgrounds, where everyone’s story for coming to therapy is different
I provide both short-term and long-term individual therapy, and we can discuss the expected duration during our initial session. For longer-term therapy, we will regularly assess progress throughout the process to ensure we’re addressing your needs and to determine when it may be the right time to conclude therapy.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have completed a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling after 4 years of training, which has provided me with a comprehensive understanding of various therapeutic approaches, including integrative and person-centred techniques. This training involved extensive coursework, practical sessions, and supervised placements, ensuring I am well-prepared to offer effective and compassionate support.
My professional experience includes working with Choose Therapy, an online counselling platform where I honed my skills in providing remote therapy to a diverse clientele. I am currently contributing my expertise to the NHS Talking Therapies in Sutton, where I work with clients facing a range of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and PTSD.
These roles, combined with my training, have given me valuable insights into the unique needs of each client, allowing me to tailor my approach to provide the most effective care. As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I am committed to upholding the highest ethical standards and continuing my professional development.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
