About me

Hi, I'm Richard and thanks for reading my profile.

I offer online counselling across the UK for anxiety, confidence issues, depression, identity, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, work, LGBTQ+ issues, shame, stress and much more.

Many people come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, stuck in self-criticism, or disconnected from who they really are. You may be struggling with anxiety, low mood, poor confidence, shame or a persistent sense that something in life 'isn't working.'

I'm an integrative counsellor offering a warm, supportive and non-judgmental space where you can explore what's going on for you at your own pace.

I particularly welcome LGBTQ+ clients and I offer an affirming space, free from judgement.

As a gay man, I understand the unique challenges and pressures that LGBTQ+ people can experience and the importance of feeling seen, accepted and understood.

Alongside counselling, I can also include other techniques (eg CBT or visualisation) to help you create deeper, lasting change - helping to build resilience and support your personal growth.

Together, we could:

  • Explore your identity, self-esteem and low confidence
  • Work through anxiety, stress, depression or low mood
  • Navigate relationships and any big (or small) life transitions
  • Overcome limiting beliefs and that sense of feeling “stuck”
  • Explore shame and its possible origins for you when you were younger
  • Build a stronger, more authentic ‘sense of self’.

Here are other issues I can help with -

  • a sense of 'people pleasing'
  • burnout
  • overthinking
  • loneliness
  • emotional overwhelm.

These are examples, as there might be some other area you'd like to work on. As my practice is under-pinned by person-centred counselling, we'd focus on what you want to focus on. My approach is tailored to you. Together, we could work on helping you make the most of yourself.

Starting counselling can feel like quite a big step. So I offer a free 15-minute introductory call so you can see whether working together feels right for you.

Get in touch to arrange the complementary initial fifteen minute conversation, which we would have either online or over the telephone, without any obligation at all.

I am based in Littleborough, Lancashire, and I offer UK-wide online counselling.

If you're looking for an online therapist in the UK, please get in touch.

Training, qualifications & experience

I graduated from The University of Salford with a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Alongside private practice, over the last several years, I have experience of supporting clients through organisations including Childline, LGBT Foundation, Mind and Headstrong.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
