About me

Hi, I am Rebecca, a Person-Centred counsellor offering a calm, accepting space where you can talk freely, at your own pace, about whatever feels important to you.

People often come to counselling feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure where to begin. You don't need to have the right words - you can arrive exactly as you are.

My role is not to tell you what to do, but to walk alongside you as you make sense of your own thoughts, feelings, and experiences. You don't need to have everything worked out. Together, we can make space for the confusion, the uncertainty, and the parts of life that feel messy or difficult to put into words.

I work gently, allowing space for things to unfold in a way that feels right for you.

Sometimes this is through talking; at other times, if it feels helpful, we may use simple creative tools to explore things in a different way. There is no expectation to work creatively - this is always led by you.

I often work with people who are navigating grief and loss, including infertility, pregnancy and baby loss, and the loss of a child, as well as those experiencing anxiety, life changes, or trying to make sense of who they are and where they fit.

If you're wondering whether this might be the right space for you, you're very welcome to get in touch to arrange a free 20-minute call. Feel free to email, message, or call if you would like to find out more.

I also co-facilitate a small in-person Creative Grief group in Colchester offering a gentle, supportive space to explore grief alongside others. If this is something you're curious about, I'd be happy to share more information.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Diploma of Higher Education in Counselling and have completed Level 5 training in Person-Centred Counselling. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and a member of Creative Counsellors.

I have a particular interest in grief and bereavement. For the past two years, I have volunteered as a Sands befriender and hospital liaison, supporting bereaved parents following the death of a baby. I have also co-facilitated a bereaved parents support group, offering a compassionate space for parents to connect and share their experiences.

Alongside my private practice, I co-facilitate a small, in-person Creative Grief group in Colchester, providing a gentle and supportive space to explore grief through conversation and optional creative activities.

I am committed to ongoing professional development and regularly undertake further training to support my work. Recent areas of study have included grief, palliative illness, cancer, trauma-informed practice, transference, and therapeutic presence. I have also completed additional training in creative ways of working, including the use of symbolic and expressive tools such as Russian dolls, stones, metaphor, and other creative resources, which can help clients explore thoughts and feelings when words alone are difficult to find.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
